INSTITUTE OF OCEANOLOGY OCEANOGRAPHIC DATA CENTRE Oceanographic data centre of the Institute of Oceanology - IO-ODC was established in June 27, 2002 ( CESUM-BS Project initiative ) Existing as a department of the Institute of Oceanology – Bulgarian Academy of Science

OBJECTIVES To collate oceanographic data, archive and store it and maximize its utilisation To enhance the availability of high quality oceanographic data for a wide group of users To promote data exchange on national and international level

TASKS  ORGANIZATIONAL TASKS To acquire, accumulate, process and archive oceanographic data To perform quality control of the data To organize data in proper national and international standards To organize data catalogues To operate oceanographic data base To perform data exchange

TASKS  METHODICAL TASKS To work out rules for reporting oceanographic explorations To work out rules for oceanographic data processing and exchange To implement the best oceanographic data practice To maintain up -to- date infrastructure, hardware and software

TASKS  RESEARCH TASKS To develop and maintain oceanographic data base To develop and maintain file and internet servers To develop and improve the LAN and WAN connections To operate and improve WEB SITE and data accessing using WWW

STAF MANAGER – organizes and masters the activity of the centre OCEANOGRAPHER – feeds and maintains data base, accepts data, performs quality control, maintains catalogues and inventories, responsible for data exchange. SOFTWARE ENGENEER - develops and maintains oceanographic data base, LAN, servers and software HARDWARE ENGENEER - develops and maintains hardware – servers and LAN WORKING GPOUPS – scientists and specialists from IO- BAS depending on needs
