By: The Commuters aka The Happy Meals

 Out of all service options, we agreed on hunger  We did not know hunger was so prevalent so close to us  Something we all relate to: being hungry  We wanted to help those who do not have this privilege  Raise awareness to others who did not know

 CT has the 3 rd highest median income in the Country at $66,452  Food Insecure rate in 2011 was 11.4, very insecure rate 4.3 = 428,000 people in CT  1 in 7 households cannot afford the food they need for their families  SNAP  “CT Map The Meal Gap Study”

 Connecticut Food Bank  End Hunger  Emergency Food Council of Greater New Haven (ERC)

 The Community Dining Room (CDR) is a well known and respected organization that is well known for feeding the hungry.  They strive to promote the impact of hunger and isolation in our society.  The Walk-a-thon was a way for us to help promote awareness of hunger in Connecticut.  By Participating in the Walk-a-Thon we were able to help raise money that benefitted the CDR.  As a result, the walkathon took in 3x the amount of money than last year

 Director of Fundraising and Volunteer Coordinator of the CDR  Sponsorship Commitment  Prizes

 Passed out promotional brochures  Posted flyers advertising the event  Participated in Volunteer meeting and learned how to glitter tattoo  Raised over $300 for the Community Dining Room  Donated a turkey and canned goods  Over 200 walkers - biggest walk to date  Profits tripled  $18,000  Volunteered by:  Passing out T-shirts  Glitter Tattooing

 Greater understanding of the issue of hunger in Connecticut  Knowledge of organizations that provide service  How to play a part in community events and volunteer work

 Raise more money  Raise more awareness  Get deeper involved in CDR
