What is a resume? A summary sheet of your experiences and accomplishments. Your resume helps potential employers decide if they would like to hire you.

A resume is a great way to show off your knowledge, education, experience and talents. It is perfectly okay to “brag” about yourself on your resume!

But what if I don’t have any real work experience?

Don’t worry – experience comes from many different places. Think hard: you’ll find something to help you stand out! Classes Volunteer Work Sports Responsibilities at home Clubs

STEP 1: Brainstorm Using the Resume Worksheet your Advisement Teacher will give you, brainstorm a list of experiences/accomplishments: – Paid or unpaid jobs (*Don’t forget babysitting, mowing the grass, etc.) – Volunteer experiences – Clubs – Sports – Extra-curricular Activities – Any special classes you are proud of – Awards or recognitions (*Don’t forget Student of the Week, Golden Warrior Awards, etc.) No matter where I was or what I was doing (even in the snow) I Walked like a Warrior ( )

For each item you’ve listed, briefly describe what you did and the date(s) Jobs: -Lawn Maintenance Hired to cut grass and trim hedges for several neighbors ( ) -Babysitting Cared for three children after school each day ( ) Awards: – Wando High School Golden Warrior Award Recipient Recognized by my teachers for oo“Walking the Warrior Way” oo(November 2012 & May 2013) STEP 2: Get specific EXAMPLE

Once you’ve organized your accomplishments and credentials, it’s time to create your resume. Format is important: One inch margins Times New Roman size 12 font One page max Clear headings Clear bullet points Spelling Grammar
