1. Men talk more than women.

Studies show that in group discussions, men talk more than women. For example, in one experiment a man and a woman were asked to describe pictures. The woman's average description was about 3 minutes. But the man talked more than 13 minutes.

2. In the classroom, boy students are more often punished than girl students.

Studies show that boy students are more likely to be punished for misbehaviors. Moreover, some studies also show that when girls and boys are misbehaving equally, boys are still more likely to be punished.

3. In the classroom, teachers are more likely to give praise to girl students than to boy students.

Although girls get better grades than boys, studies show that they receive less praise from teachers. Besides, when girls get praise from teachers, it is likely to be for their neatness or appearance. However, teachers may tell boys how smart they are to think out some good ideas.

4. In general, men smile more often than women.

Studies show that women smile far more often than men. They do this even though they are not necessarily happy. Women also smile back to strangers more often than men.

5. Women are more likely to reveal their personal information than men.

Most studies show that women tend to reveal their personal information about themselves. This result may also reflect differences in power or status between men and women. “ Gender Difference ” is adapted from:
