Eco-Friendly Benefits of APCO Signs

APCO’s Arcadia System Chosen for US Green Building Council Headquarters Signage may often not have an impact either positive or negative on a facility’s LEED certification, based solely on the quantity of signs used as compared to all other interiors and building materials. But when our #1 selling Arcadia system was selected for the Platinum LEED certified USGBC Headquarters in Washington DC, it reassured us of the eco-friendly qualities of our products, which are at the very least, true to the purpose and spirit of LEED Certification. The following slides will provide more details about why we feel APCO signs can provide a host of eco-friendly benefits for your next project. Why APCO Signs Are Green

Modular Signs Are an Ecologically Smart Choice Extends the Product’s Life Cycle Sign Frames Can Be Reused Instead of Thrown Away

Why APCO Signs Are Green APCO Products Are Made in the USA Less Energy & Pollution Involved than with Overseas Shipments of Imported Products All APCO Products are Manufactured in Atlanta, Georgia USA May Assist with LEED Regional Materials Credit

Why APCO Signs Are Green All APCO Systems Accommodate Paper Inserts Allows the User to Update Signs In-House Reduces Energy & Pollution of Reordering Signs from Manufacturer Paper is Easily Recycled

Why APCO Signs Are Green Most APCO Systems Feature 100% Recyclable Aluminum Components

Why APCO Signs Are Green Injection Molded Plastic Components of APCO Systems Are Recyclable within the #7 Category of Plastics

Why APCO Signs Are Green With Such a Broad Range of Modular Systems, APCO Offers a Number of Green Solutions... Arcadia Sign Frame 100% Recyclable Aluminum Satin Anodized Finish – No VOC’s Accommodates Mechanical Fasteners Clear ADA Plaque 40% Recycled Content No Silkscreen Inks on Tactile Copy Eco-Solvent Ink-Jet Printed Background Color

Why APCO Signs Are Green...Thus Putting You in Control of How Green Your Sign System Is. PETG Clear Lens GreenGuard Certified – No VOC’s Recyclable Via a Growing Number of Specialty Plastics Recycling Companies Recycled Paper Graphic Insert Updated In-House with Laser Printer Avoids Transportation from Sign Manufacturer 100% Recyclable

What About Recycled Content in the Aluminum? APCO sources its 6063-T6 alloy aluminum extrusions from several different providers, and the recycled content can range from 0% pre-consumer---0% post consumer to 20% post-consumer---30% pre-consumer. Signs are very visual products and play a key role in setting forth a facility’s image. The vast majority of APCO’s clients are very demanding with regards to receiving a high- quality and consistent interior grade anodized aluminum finish. Because of this, APCO’s aluminum suppliers have determined that the addition of recycled content into the majority of our interior aluminum extrusions would sacrifice the quality and consistency of the finish. Thus, most of the extrusions of APCO’s interior sign systems contain less than 10% recycled content. APCO is working with its extruders on an ongoing basis to examine every opportunity to increase the level of recycled content in its aluminum extrusions as much as possible. Why APCO Signs Are Green

APCO Embraces Green Practices in Both It’s Manufacturing & Office Environments Air Emissions Consistently meets or falls well below EPA guidelines and regulations for air quality control Use of filtered exhaust systems with regular maintenance Use of specialized HVLP paint spray equipment to minimize emissions Hazardous Waste All hazardous waste transported by a licensed transporter & disposed of through a recycling process used in fuel blending Annual reports listing all hazardous waste removed from worksite sent to proper governing authorities Recycling & Commuter Programs for Employees APCO has a successful recycling program for aluminum, paper, plastics, magazines & corrugated cardboard APCO operates a very successful commuter program, offering benefits for employees who carpool, bike or take public transportation to work.

How Green Will Your Signs Be? With a Number of Eco-Friendly Solutions Available, There Are Many Factors to Consider €First determine how long your signs will need to last and develop the proper balance of quality and green. €Consider eco-friendly finishes such as natural satin anodized aluminum, low VOC ink-jet printed graphics, paper displays, etc. €Consider incorporating recycled content or recyclable materials In the end, the choice is yours! €If feasible with the facility conditions and budget, utilize mechanical fasteners for installation instead of high VOC adhesives
