( means July 2008 – June 2009) ~ Aurora will NOT be included in the analysis Energy Usage Analysis ~ Energy Usage Information Was Provided by Tom Gunderson

~ Average spent on LEACH electric bill from = $30, a month Monthly Energy Usage for LEACH Buildings

LEACH Energy Usage & Cost for ~ Clearly Energy Usage & Cost is Annually Increasing!

POWER HOUSE Cost & Usage for Boathouse ~ Cleveland ~ Maintenance ~ Morgan ~ Pettibone ~ Smith (Sommer Center) ~ Zabriskie Boathouse ~ Cleveland ~ Maintenance ~ Morgan ~ Pettibone ~ Smith (Sommer Center) ~ Zabriskie ~ Increase due to use of the Zabriskie and additional generator!

~ Currently Wells College Has Over 600 Students Energy & Cost Increase For Additional Students ~ If 600 students were responsible for half of the energy usage: Wells Students Wells Students Energy Usage (kWh) Students 4,159,296$483, Per Student 3,466$ Students 5,545,728$644, ~ Each student uses approximately 3,466 kWh of energy! ~ If Wells increases its size to 800 students, The annual energy bill will increase approximately $161,191!

Energy Reduction Strategies Power Usage Comparison (Watts) IncandescentCFLLED ~ CFLs are 75% more efficient ~ ~ CFLs, on average, 9 time life span ~ ~ LEDs are 90% more efficient ~ ~ LEDs can last up to 25 times~ ~ CFLs contain mercury vapor ~ ~ LEDs are currently very expensive ~

~ One of the potential requirements that can be fulfilled for the President’s Climate Commitment is to ensure that at 15% of our energy comes from a renewable source. Commitment is to ensure that at 15% of our energy comes from a renewable source. ~ If 15% of our energy came from Solar energy, for example, it would fulfill all of the energy needs for the POWER HOUSE buildings, allowing for over 30% of of the energy needs for the POWER HOUSE buildings, allowing for over 30% of Wells College buildings to be powered by a renewable energy source! Wells College buildings to be powered by a renewable energy source!

~ According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Irradiance Data, Upstate New York receives approximately 4 hours of daily prime sunlight from Upstate New York receives approximately 4 hours of daily prime sunlight from (10kW Photovoltaic System will generate 40kWh a day, kWh annually) ~ To fulfill 15% of Wells College energy usage requires a 428 kW system. (428 kW * 4 hrs* 365 days) = kWh ~ Assuming that it costs $8 a Watt (Renovus Price), A 428 kW system would cost approximately $3,424,000 before any incentives. Potential Solar System for 15% of Wells Energy Usage ~ NYSERDA Incentives can provide up to 40% of initial investment
