The Project The SCS900 Data folder Each Site contains: Designs Each device running SCS900 has a data folder The data folder contains Sites Each Site contains: Site calibration, Control points, Background map, Designs and Work orders Designs Multiple designs per site Design data for earthworks, roads, services etc Work Orders A job or task to be completed on the site Refers to a specific design Includes settings, tolerances and instructions Includes a record of all measurements made, points staked, and reports generated. The SCS900 Site Controller Software structures a construction project into the following types of information: Site: Contains information that applies to everything that you do on the project. A site can include a GPS site calibration, as well as control points and a background map to provide reference at the job site. Design: Multiple designs can be created for a site. Each design contains data for a specific phase or activity of the project, e.g. earthworks, roads, utilities, pads, etc. Designs can contain stakeout points, a live foreground map to provide linework for staking, and a surface or road model to provide elevation data. Work Order: A work order is a job or task to be completed on the site. The work order contains the settings, tolerances, instructions, and the reference to a specific design. Work orders can be established in the office by a supervisor for the field crew or in the field by the crew themselves. A work order can also contain a record of all measurements made, points staked, and reports generated 12

The Office Workflow Business Centre (BC): New Project New Job Site Import files New Job Site Site Calibration and Control points Background files Work Order Create Assign Visualize and check Send to field crew directly Email Data Card Synchronize with TCC Import - Before you can create a job site and associated data within Trimble Business Center, you must first import or manually input the roadway, surface, CAD, or point data required by the field crews or machines on the job site. Create Job - Once data has been imported, you can create a job site and add or create job site data, such as a GPS site calibration, control points and a background map, using the Job Site Manager. The site data can be assigned to designated controllers and will be transferred to the device or machine's data card when it is synchronized on its next connection to the compute. Create WO - To create a new work order, use the Create Work Order command. The new work order is assigned to a specific controller and references a specific design. When you select a type for the work order, it dictates the settings and tolerances that are required for the work order's successful execution. You can also enter instructions for the field crew to explain what is required. Existing work orders can be modified using the Work Order Editor Assign WO - When you assign your data and work orders to specific controllers, and connect those controllers, files are synchronized so that the data in your project and on the controllers matches. Assigning data and work orders to specific controllers makes them accessible to the right crews and machines in the field. Review - Prior to sending data to the field, use the Work Order Viewer to visually inspect the site and design data that you have selected. The Work Order viewer shows the same graphical view of the data that SCS900 will provide to the field crew, enabling you to set up the information to be displayed and check for errors and omissions Send - The site, design, and work order data that you have created can be selected, compressed, and e-mailed to a field crew, subcontractor, client, or work colleague. Provide a copy of Trimble Business Center to all of your business partners and employees so they can easily share your information. Synchronize - Once assigned to a controller, the site, design, and work order data is tracked using Trimble Business Center's Intelligent Data Tracking™ technology. Any change made to the shared data in the office or field will be automatically flagged for update. The same data can be tracked across multiple crews, ensuring that all users have current and up-to-date information. Controllers receive the updated information on the next synchronization with the computer. When a field crew synchronizes their controller, any new field measurement data is transferred to the Trimble Synchronizer Data folder on the computer. At the same time, revisions and new information prepared for the crew using Trimble Business Center are transferred to the controller. New and updated work order records of site measurements and stakeout can be imported into your Trimble Business Center project. 13

The Bottom Line Productivity gains Cost savings 29

Productivity Gains On the same page Forward planning No waiting Surveyors, grade checkers, supervisors and machine operators – are all working with the same up-to-date information. Forward planning Plant and materials requirements can be regularly checked and scheduled No waiting Topsoil striping and cut/fill can begin without waiting for stakeout or machine control Adding value to your workforce Supervisors take over basic survey operations and volume calcs Leading hands and foremen can plan ahead Surveyors can focus on high level tasks Improved communications between field and office personnel

Improved Productivity Collective data management Everyone working on the same data Everyone has access to the data Everyone can collect new data Empower site operatives (DIY) No waiting for data from engineers No waiting for set-out or check from surveyor No waiting for someone else's report

Cost savings No hard copy drawings Travel time, down time, fuel costs and rework can be avoided No staking and re-staking Machines require GCS system Cost of Survey crew Cost of materials Cost of delays waiting for re-staking Quote: “To purchase survey equipment for 4 survey crews (required for staking) and pay wages over the 3 year life of the project would cost approximately $AU4 million dollars”

Cost Savings Its Monday and you need to check grade on an area you think you’re finished with The surveyor can’t make it until next week… How much money does down time cost you? How much money do idle machines cost you? SCS900 gives you the ability to do the work yourself!

Closing statement SCS900 empowers your team with the information and tools to: Plan ahead Resolve issues quickly Take ownership of the job The benefits can be measured in: Increased efficiency from a higher value workforce Reduced survey costs Reduction of delays and rework Better forward planning The SCS900 Supervisor System allows users access to information that can assist in planning future works and helps field crews react to unplanned works without the need to wait for surveyors or machine guidance. It also reduces the reliance on traditional survey crews, allowing on-site users to assume responsibility of basic survey tasks and facilitates simple field calcs in order to more efficiently control resources such as plant and material ordering. Sharing the survey tasks between crews also helps with team bonding and individual job satisfaction as well as creating individuals that become more valuable to the project as a whole. Additionally, there is a very real cost saving for the project with the use of the Trimble SCS900 Supervisor Systems 34
