PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS A rack system supporting Sanyo HIP-190 photovoltaic modules with SMA modular inverters would be installed on the two high roofs (east/west) and one of the low roofs (west) at 23° pitches. The Sanyo PV modules would be installed on racks mounted on top of the asphalt roof surface. Arrays would be 73 feet long by 8.75 feet wide on both of the high roofs and 73 feet long by 4.4 feet wide on the low west roof. This coverage of photovoltaic represents approximately 28,000 kWh per year, approximately 25% of the building’s average annual energy consumption.

Images and text from HKT Architects – Project Architects GEOTHERMAL ENERGY HEAT SOURCE The facility will utilize ground-coupled heat pumps that derive their thermal energy from the ground water below. Ground water is raised from a well, 1,500 feet deep at a constant temperature of approximately 55 degrees Fahrenheit and utilized in conjunction with a heat pump system to provide heating and cooling throughout the year.

Images and text from HKT Architects – Project Architects BORROWED NATURAL LIGHTING Enclosed offices at the perimeter of the building have glazed side panels and transoms at the interior walls to allow natural light to penetrate to the interior work space.

Images and text from HKT Architects – Project Architects RENEWABLE RESOURCES - CABINETS Interior cabinetry will be constructed utilizing a number of products manufactured from annually renewable wheat straw fiber and soy products.

Images and text from HKT Architects – Project Architects RENEWABLE RESOURCES Several of the finish materials used within the facility are derived from renewable resources such as bamboo and cork flooring. In addition carpeting materials were manufactured from recycled materials as were the exterior siding materials. 20% of all building materials were manufactured within 500 miles of the site, including natural slate and field stone used in the project. Images and text from HKT Architects – Project Architects ON-SITE RECYCLING CENTER The Trustees of Reservations is committed to recycling the maximum amount of site generated debris. A recycling center in the basement of the facility provides a repository for all paper and paper products as well as glass and metal containers. In addition the Builder was required to recycle all waste materials from the construction of the facility.
