RESTORING THE JOY OF CHILDLESS COUPLES TJJC

Epidemiology 4 An increasing % of married couple suffer from childlessness due to infertility 4 10% of these childless couple are due to unexplained infertility 4 A large % of these unexplained infertility can be traced to ovulation problems

Possible Intervention includes; 4 Timed Intercourse -involves determination of ovulation -objective to have intercourse within 12hrs of ovulation

OVULATION can be adversely affected by 4 Abnormalities of the thyroid gland 4 Over production of prolactin(a hormone that leads to breast milk production) 4 Excessive male hormone (androgen) 4 STRESS-physical, psychological and extreme life style changes 4 Thereby making it extremely difficult to determine ovulation

Present method of determination of OVULATION includes; 4 Basal Body Temp. Chart –Temp. Spike occurs after ovulation 4 Mid cycle pain - Sharp pain in the pelvic area usually lasting some minutes or up to some hours 4 Cervical Mucus Changes –Should be Clear and Stretchy

Drawbacks of present techniques for determination of OVULATION 4 Cumbersome nature of the procedure 4 Inaccurate results 4 Process not easily observed in most women 4 Difficulty in interpretation of result 4 Messy procedure 4 Expensive

Creating a need for the birth of a novel product; 4 Simple and convenient to use 4 Guarantees accurate results 4 Hygienic procedure enhancing compliance 4 Can easily and accurately predict ovulation period in women 4 Very affordable

Predicte

Mechanism of Action of 4 Detects Spike in Leutenizing Hormone in the urine in the middle of the Menstrual Cycle.

The Menstrual Cycle Start cycle Day 1-5. FSH (from brain) released into bloodstream - initiate follicles in ovary to grow. Follicles grow Day One follicle grow faster than the others. Follicles start producing Oestrogen hormone. Oestrogen + FSH will prepare the womb (thicken) for later egg implantation. LH released Ovulation For 3 days, egg will travel in fallopian tube, waiting to be fertilized by a sperm hours later, egg released from Ovary. LH & FSH drop drastically. Day Lutenising Hormone (LH) released for egg to “ripen” and burst from ovary. Continue….

The Menstrual Cycle ……….continue OvulationUnfertilized Egg expelled along with womb lining on the 28th day (menstruation) Fertilized Few days to travel to womb. Get implanted Human Chorines Gonadotrophin (hCG) released for maintenance of the womb linings. Peak days after conception. Pregnancy Test + Positive !

The Ovulation Cycle hours after LH surge Oestrogen FSH

Start test ? Sample urine ? WHEN TO…

START TESTING ON… Length of Normal Cycle (Total days) Start testing this many days after your last period began. Length of Normal Cycle (Total days) Start testing this many days after your last period began

-A Non Invasive Procedure 4 Collect urine once a day at about the same time every day. 4 For best result reduce liquid intake for 2 hours before collecting urine and do not urinate for about 4 hours

Easy to use 4R4Remove the Test Strip from the sealed pouch 4I4Immerse the strip into the urine with the arrow end pointing towards the urine. Do not immerse past the MAX (marker line)

TEST PROCEDURE Cont… 4T4Take the strip out after 5 seconds and lay on a clean, dry, non-absorbent surface. 4W4Wait for colored bands to appear. Depending on concentration of LH in the test specimen, positive may be observed in as little as 40 seconds. However, to confirm negative results, the complete reaction time of 10 minutes is required. 4D4DO NOT READ RESULT AFTER MORE THAN 30 MINUTES!

Ease in interpretation of result 4 INVALID 4 NO LH SURGE i.e. Negative 4 LH SURGE i.e. POSITIVE

Positive RESULT means… 4O4OVULATION WILL OCCUR IN THE NEXT HRS!!! 4S4So you know when to advice intercourse to achieve the desired goal! –C–Conception –M–Meeting for Couples Apart 4A4AND…

Aids determination of baby’s sex 4 MALE - X or Y CHROMOSONES 4 FEMALE – X CHROMOSONES ONLY

RECALL THAT…. 4X4X+Y Fusion = Male –X–X+X Fusion =Female –Y–Y-sperm cells are light and swim faster across the cervix –X–X-sperm cells are heavy and swim slowly –Y–Y-sperm cells die faster –X–X-sperm cells survive longer

SO.. 4 Intercourse some days before Ovulation- –More likely to yield X+X fusion i.e. Female 4 Intercourse immediately after Ovulation –higher probability of Y+X fusion i.e. Male

Summary of benefits 4 EASY AND CONVENIENT TO USE 4 NON INVASIVE AND HYGIENIC TECHNIQUE - ENHANCING COMPLIANCE 4 ACCURATE RESULT 4 SIMPLE TO INTERPRETE 4 VERY AFFORDABLE 4 AIDS NATURAL CONCEPTION 4 ALSO USEFUL IN NATURAL SEX SELECTION

With 4 You know with certainty when Ovulation will occur 4 You therefore also know when to advice intercourse –To Achieve conception and Sex Selection!

PRESCRIBE For Your Patients 4 You may just be God's hand waiting to touch some couples to restore JOY!

... a one–step test to determine the most fertile day to conceive! THANK YOU!
