Huangshan is a magical mountain. The mystical clouds drift in and out, changing the scenery from minute to minute, as the mist rises and ebbs. The beauty of Huangshan also varies with the seasons. Map of Huangshan Scenic Area The recommended route for a tour of Huangshan is to go up and down at the back of mountain (as shown by the arrows). The scenery is beautiful and it is not very tiring. Our local guide will plan the trip according to your preferences.

The Climate of Huangshan Scenic Area The temperature changes with altitude at Huangshan, and the climate of the mountain varies at different elevations. It basically has 3 climate types from the base to top: subtropical at the base, temperate on the mountainside and Alpine above the tree line on the mountaintops. The average temperature in the mountainous zone is 7.8 °C. The July average is 17.7 °C and the January average is -3.1°C. The record high at mountaintop level ( Bright Summit ) is 27.1 °C and the record low is - 22 °C. The record high at the mountain’s base ( Hot Spring area ) is 34.2 °C and the record low is °C. There are 108 frost days (equal or below 0 °C) a year and 21 severe frost days (equal or below -10 °C) a year. Huangshan is situated in Central China, near the ocean. Frequented by warm air masses, full of vapor from the Pacific, it has many rainy and cloudy days. The sun shines on an average of 151 days a year. On the mountain tops humidity is about 90% on average in July and August, and around 60% in December and January. Huangshan is the area of heaviest rainfall in Anhui province. Rain falls on an average of 183 days a year. Average annual precipitation is 2395 mm, with a record high of 3327 mm and a record low of 1544 mm, concentrated in the summer period May through to September. Huangshan has little rain and more sunshine in winter. Snow falls on an average of 49 days a year, so there’s a window of two or three months to enjoy the snow-capped peaks and frosted trees against the blue sky, and a better chance to see the sea of clouds and sunrise in winter.

*Please deposit your suitcases at the hotel in Tunxi and just bring an overnight bag to the top of the mountain. Don’t forget to bring a torch; walking poles (if you use them); sunscreen cream; mosquito repellant and a rain coat (not an umbrella). Bring water and snacks to keep your energy levels up. *Purchase some bottled water and snacks before you start to ascend the mountain. Supplies are available on the mountain but the prices increase with the altitude. *Watch your footing when climbing the steps and be mindful of your safety when taking photos. *No smoking on the mountain, except in the smoking areas. *If there is a storm, please do not climb to the summits or stand under trees which may be struck by lightning. The temperature on the mountain is lower than that at the base, so please bring warm clothes. If feeling cold in the hotel room on the mountain, please ask the house keeper for additional quilts. *It is essential to take a jacket as it gets chilly and good walking shoes. Raincoats can be purchased and are a very wise investment for protection from the rain and wind. Don't use an umbrella as it can be dangerous *April and May; September and October are the high season, as well as weekends and Chinese holidays, like Labor’s Day Holiday (May 1-3); National Day Holiday (October 1-3), and Spring Festival Holiday (2 weeks in January or February). It is advisable to make your reservations as early as possible in these periods. *Huangshan is most famous for its sun rise and sea of cloud at dawn. However, these wonders are subject to weather conditions. *Please keep away from monkeys on the mountain. Travel Tips

Why visit Huangshan in the winter? 1 : The price is lower. December to February is the off season. The entrance fee, cable car ticket and hotel costs are all lower than in the high season. 2 : There is the beautiful winter scenery to enjoy. In winter, West Sea Grand Canyon and Tian Du Peak will be closed due to snow, but, as there is no rain in winter, there is a greater possibility of seeing the Sea of Clouds and beautiful snow scenes. 3 : There are very few tourists. In the high season, there is always a long queue at the cable car station. Some spots will be crowded with tourists. However, in winter time, there are few tourists on the mountain, so you can enjoy the scenery in relative tranquility. Important notes: Be care of your safety where there is snow or ice on the ground. Please walk slowly and watch out the steps.
