Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Opening Q’s Before we start, I’d like to open the call to questions…It can be a follow up to last week, a success or personal development question, a question about your own life, a question about coaching, or anything at all!

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Introduction It’s a popular topic right now, bad bosses! What is a bad boss? What is the role of a coach with a bad boss? What are specific techniques a client can use with bad bosses? What are some of the big picture learnings about bad bosses?

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Opening Discussion Have you ever had a “bad boss”? What made your boss a bad boss? How did that situation turn out for you, did you learn anything? Did you stay? Did you leave?

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Bad Bosses Incompetent Overly political/cya No clearly defined responsibilities given No praise/credit…Credit stealing AbusiveMicro-managing

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 More on Bad Bosses Are there other kinds of things that bad bosses can do? Demeaning/Monkey Story

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Bad Bosses are Blessings Opportunity to learn about the self Learning about boundaries Learning about managing emotional focus Learning about looking beyond ego matters Learning about honoring the self Learning what you really want

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Role of the Coach What do we feel the role of a coach can be when a client has a bad boss and says they want help? Leaving jobs may not be the best answer…Whereever you go, you take yourself, and you could end up in similar situation if you don’t learn to heal it now, so it is a super coaching opportunity

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Managing Up Managing up means being proactive about your relationship with your boss Always keep it professional Require regular one on ones Require written feedback from your boss Know your bosses priorities Compliment your boss on any small moves in the right direction Relate to your boss as a human being…Ultimately they are human doing the best they know how (even if they are failing miserably). Learn the difference between judgement and discernment Use business tools Never compromise your values Always step back and ask yourself what healthy boundaries are Stick with the facts

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 When Something Happens Stop and ask yourself – what exactly is going on here, the facts Get yourself centered, go for walk, deep breaths, etc Ask yourself if you need to express a boundary Ask yourself if you need to use a business tool Don’t worry what others will think of you, focus on what you feel is right

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Any other Managing Up Techniques? Are there other things we’ve used with ourselves or with clients to heal a bad boss situation?

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Final Discussion What could be some of the desired outcomes of coaching around a bad boss? Specific success stories Final thoughts and questions

Copyright (c) Michele Caron, 2011 Next Session Next session: Tuesday, July 19th This is our mastery call Have a fantastic week!
