Recovery in Action Self management and WRAP Laurie Davidson

Unpacking Recovery Self ManagementPeer Support Social InclusionHearing stories Service/language change Hope enhancing relationships

Self management and peer support in secure settings Both self management and peer support systems are already well established (WRAP in prisons) People in secure settings are likely to have developed intensive and sophisticated self management skills and strategies Survival skills are born of necessity WRAP offers a way of making and sharing contingencies for triggers and early warning signs Negotiated safety planning has more chance of success than risk management alone

Wellness Recovery Action Plan Wellness Tools Daily Maintenance Plan Identifying Triggers and an Action Plan Identifying Early Warning Signs and an Action Plan Signs that Things Are Breaking Down and an Action Plan Crisis Planning Post Crisis Planning

WRAP as an approach (not a paper exercise)…. Places great importance on daily routine and how we respond to daily triggers and early warning signs Gives clues to others about how to be most helpful Gives staff a common sense, practical way of working with people It is a way of seeing the world as an alternative to medical and psychological approaches It provides a language, framework and context in which to develop effective risk reduction and safety planning
