Write to Learn: Plant vs Animal Cells Complete write to learn and quiz during the video Explain the difference between a plant cell and animal cell in regard to structure and function. Include organelles found in both types of cells and organelles unique to each type of cell and explain their function.

My Cell Rap We will differentiate between the structure and function of plant and animal cells by creating a rap, song or poem. S- George has a 500g cube. What is the density of the cube? 5cm

7.12Organisms and environments. The student knows that living systems at all levels of organization demonstrate the complementary nature of structure and function. The student is expected to: (D) differentiate between structure and function in plant and animal cell organelles, including cell membrane, cell wall, nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondrion, chloroplast, and vacuole; (E) compare the functions of a cell to the functions of organisms such as waste removal; and P- Write a paragraph of what you should know.

A- Pop Quiz Label the parts Mitochondria Nucleus Cytoplasm Cell membrane Golgi Complex Endoplasmic Reticulum 7. Is this a plant or animal cell? Word Bank: Gogli complex, cytoplasm, mitochondria, nucleus, cell wall, cell membrane, endoplasmic reticulum, plant, animal, ribosomes

C-C- My Cell Rap Rubric and expectations.Rap Name of organelle What rhymes Function of organelle Write a phrase that rhymes using the structure and function Cell Membrane Cell Wall Cytoplasm Nucleus Mitochondria Chloroplast Vacuole **You must have all the organelles structure and function from above and distinguish the difference between plant and animal cells. Each set of lines must rhyme!

E- Look at how much work you have done today. 1.Do you think you were productive today? 2.What do you need to accomplish tomorrow in order to finish your rap/ song

My Cell Rap2 We will differentiate between the structure and function of plant and animal cells by creating a rap, song or poem and presenting. S- 1. What type of energy transformation happens during photosynthesis? 2. Which organelle carries out the process of photosynthesis? Radiant  Chemical Chloroplast carries out the process of photosynthesis

P- 1. Which organelle helps the cell extract energy from food? 2. Which structures are common to eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells? The mitochondria converts energy for cell use by breaking down nutrients from food. The structures common to eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells are the cell membrane, cytoplasm, and DNA. Eukaryote Prokaryote Cytoplasm

A-Pop quiz Chloroplast Cytoplasm Golgi Mitochondria Cell Wall Vacuole Nucleus Endoplasmic reticulum 9. What type of cell is this and how do you know? It is a plant cell because it has a cell wall, large vacuole, and chloroplast Word Bank: golgi, nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, cell wall, cell membrane, vacuole, cytoplasm, chloroplast, plant, animal, ribosomes

C- Complete My Cell Rap. Use your note organizer/rubric from yesterday to write your cell rap. Name of organelle What rhymesFunction of organelle Write a phrase that rhymes using the structure and function Cell Membrane Cell Wall Cytoplasm Nucleus Mitochondria Chloroplast Vacuole

E- Reflection 1.What was our objective for today? 2.Did you accomplish today’s objective? Why or why not? 3.Do you feel that you could have done better? Explain.

Cell Rap Presentation S: Copy the sentence and fill in the blanks. 1.All organisms are composed of _______, structures that carry on processes that sustain life. (cells or cellulose) 2.The cell wall of plant cells is made up of_______. (lipids or cellulose) 3.________ cells have membrane-bound organelles. (Prokaryote or Eukaryote) 4.The information on how to make proteins is located in the____________. (Golgi complex or nucleus) 5.Vesicles that will transport materials out of the cell are formed at the __________. (Golgi complex or Cell membrane) OBJ: We will differentiate between structure and function in plant and animal cell organelles by presenting our cell rap.

Organisms and environments. The student knows that living systems at all levels of organization demonstrate the complementary nature of structure and function. The student is expected to: (D) differentiate between structure and function in plant and animal cell organelles, including cell membrane, cell wall, nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondrion, chloroplast, and vacuole; PA Explain the function of each part of a eukaryotic cell listed below. Cell membrane – controls what goes in an out of cell Cell wall – protects and supports the cell. Nucleus – controls cell activities Cytoplasm – holds organelles, helps give cell its shape. Mitochondria – converts energy for cell use. Chloroplast – carries out photosynthesis Vacuole - stores water, food, and waste

CE: Cell Rap Presentation

Bill Nye Cells We will compare the structure and function of cells to organisms by completing a writing to learn activity using a video on cells. S- Calculate the speed for each line Speed = Distance / Time A B C

1. What functions can a cell perform comparable with an organism? 2. Which organelles help an organism in waste removal? Organisms and environments. The student knows that living systems at all levels of organization demonstrate the complementary nature of structure and function. The student is expected to: (D) differentiate between structure and function in plant and animal cell organelles, including cell membrane, cell wall, nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondrion, chloroplast, and vacuole; (E) compare the functions of a cell to the functions of organisms such as waste removal; and (F) recognize that according to cell theory all organisms are composed of cells and cells carry on similar functions such as extracting energy from food to sustain life Organisms and environments. The student knows that living systems at all levels of organization demonstrate the complementary nature of structure and function. The student is expected to: (D) differentiate between structure and function in plant and animal cell organelles, including cell membrane, cell wall, nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondrion, chloroplast, and vacuole; (E) compare the functions of a cell to the functions of organisms such as waste removal; and (F) recognize that according to cell theory all organisms are composed of cells and cells carry on similar functions such as extracting energy from food to sustain life P: 1. Cells and organisms can perform functions such as removal of waste and extracting energy from food. Vacuoles stores waste for removal and waste can exit the cell through the cell membrane.

A- Bill Nye Cells Video: Copy and fill in the chart with notes during the video. K What I know L What I learned N Need to Know gk Structure and function of cell organelles Difference between plant and animal cells. Cell Theory Compare cell functions to organisms such as waste removal and extracting energy There’s many types of cells Brain cells – to think Muscle cells – to move Skin cells – protect you from the outside world. Stomach cells – digestion Bone cells – structure and support. Cells carry out similar functions to organisms such as extracting energy, removing waste, and reproduction. Different types of cells have different job that help organisms function.

C/E: Writing to Learn Write about the different types of cells in your body and their functions. 1.What are the types of cells found in a human body? 2.What jobs do they do? 3.How do cells help you grow and develop? 4.Compare the function of cells to organisms.
