1
A Tour Through the Living Cell 7 th Grade
2
Two Types of Cells All living things are made of cells. All cells can be put into two groups: animal cells and plants cells Plant cells have two parts that animal cells do not: a cell wall and chloroplasts
3
Cell Wall A cell wall is a protective layer that goes around a cell. It is very durable and protects the cell.
4
Chloroplasts Chloroplasts are filled with Chlorophyll, it is why they are green. The main job of the chloroplasts is to take in sunlight and make food for the plant
5
Cell Membrane The cell membrane also surrounds the cell. The membrane makes sure good things stay in and bad things stay out.
6
Cytoplasm The cytoplasm is the stuff that fills the cell. It holds all the parts of the cell in place.
7
Nucleus The nucleus is the “brain” of the cell. It controls all the other functions of the cell This is also where the DNA is found
8
Ribosomes Very small organelles The ribosomes create proteins for the cell. Proteins are needed for a organism to live
9
Endoplasmic Reticulum The ER is a transports system The ER Transports proteins and nutrients
10
Mitochondria The Mitochondria powers the cell It provides energy (ATP) for the cell
11
Lysosomes Lysosomes digest materials They break down dead and old organelles. They get rid of waste
12
Vacuoles The vacuoles are the storage unit of the cells. The store different types of material like water. Plant vacuoles are very large.
13
Check out the differences AnimalPlant
