Welcome to the 6th grade. I am your World Studies teacher, Mr Welcome to the 6th grade! I am your World Studies teacher, Mr. Ruiz and I am looking forward to this school year. I know that your first year of middle school is an exciting step in your life! I will help you and guide you through your learning in this class to be the best student you can be. I am here to teach and you are here to learn. I will do my job and you will do yours. We will work together to use this year’s time wisely to the benefit of your education. WHY DO WE HAVE PROCEDURES? A procedure is the way we do things. To do things right we have to follow some simple procedures, for example: To open your locker you have to enter the correct combination and turn the dial the correct way. (RIGHT-LEFT-RIGHT) To make a phone call you need to enter the numbers in the correct order To be successful in learning you need to follow some simple procedures. WHY DO WE HAVE PROCEDURES?

Make sure you have all necessary materials for class(Agenda, pen/pencil, paper, binder, journal, homework). Enter the classroom quietly. Go directly to your assigned seat. Write your daily agenda. Get started on the daily warm up. If you need to sharpen your pencil raise your hand to ask permission. ENTERING CLASS

RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS If your Agenda is not written for the day, do so and complete your daily warm up that will be on the screen through the LCD projector. When you finish wait quietly for your instructions RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS

DURING INSTRUCTION Listen to the teacher with full attention. No pencil sharpening, talking or whispering Ask permission to speak by raising your hand. Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions which are not related to the subject can be asked after instruction. After instruction, make sure you understand the concept. If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you didn’t understand. DURING INSTRUCTION

Make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand them. If you didn’t understand, ask help from other students sitting around you. If they also don’t understand, ask the teacher to explain what you don’t understand. If you are asked to help, be polite and kind and offer your best. Talking to each other should be no louder than a whisper. The person sitting on the other side of the room should not be interrupted by your noise. Respect each other and be friendly. Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time. WHILE YOU ARE WORKING

You should have a World Studies journal which will ONLY be used in this class Use pen or pencil to write in your journal. Using two different colors, one for the title and a different one for the body of the text, will make your journal look better and more organized. The first page should be the title page. Write your full name, class(World Studies), and school name on it. Number the pages in the right bottom corner. Always write the title with capital letters. Each day, put the date first. Keep your journal clean and organized. Your journal will be collected and checked from time to time. Turn it in on time when you are asked. Take good care of your journal. Do not lose it. KEEPING YOUR JOURNAL

IF THE TEACHER RAISES HIS HAND Stop whatever you are doing at that moment. Face the teacher and wait silently. Notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has raised his hand. No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to the teacher. IF THE TEACHER RAISES HIS HAND

AFTER YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR WORK Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. If the assignment is to be turned in, do so. Start your reading session. (Read your book, magazine, etc.) AFTER YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR WORK

DISMISSAL Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trash can. Wait for Mr. Ruiz to dismiss you. The ring of the bell does not dismiss you. After you get permission to leave, straighten your desk and leave quietly. DISMISSAL

When homework is assigned it should be written in your Agenda. If you are unsure of whether you have homework or not you should check Mr. Ruiz’ BLOG Read all directions for your homework and complete all of it. Bring it to class in your binder and wait for Mr. Ruiz to take up the homework assignment. HOMEWORK PROCEDURE
