Introduction  Project Overview  Milestones Covered  Other Accomplishments  Upcoming Milestones  Logic Design  Issues/Concerns  Summary

Knowledge Bowl  Is a game between three four person teams.  A question is read and the first team to “buzz” in gets to attempt an answer.

Milestones (up to this point) Due date MilestoneMilestone description 3-Oct-12 Power supply design We will use a power station in the lab to find a power supply that works and then buy one that meets those specifications.  We decided on specifications of 5 volts and 1 amp.

Milestones (Cont.) Due date MilestoneMilestone description 24-Oct-12Design of player controller Player controller: will be 4' by 6" by 1/4". Will have two separate contacts with a potential voltage difference of 5 volts. Making a connection between these contacts with a hand is how you "buzz" in. Top View Side View

Milestones (Cont.) Due date MilestoneMilestone description 24-Oct-12 Design of administrator controller Administrator Controller: will be 5" by 3" by 1/4" and will have only two buttons. One of which will reset only the clock and the other will clear all teams and the clock. Reset Count Reset Voting 3

Milestones (Cont.) Due date MilestoneMilestone description 24-Oct-12 Test ranking circuit functionality in logicThis logic was created and tested in B^2Logic.BLT  Our actual circuits that were tested are on the next slides.

Milestones (Cont.) Due date MilestoneMilestone description 24-Oct-12 Defining interfaces between components Player controllers will have a potential voltage difference of 5 volts between two contacts. A players hand will connect between the two contacts and the voltage that is not lost over the hand will got to a comparator.  We need to pick a resistor value close to R-bar so that V+ will cross the threshold voltage set by the potentiometer.

Other Accomplishments needed  Having two metal contacts instead of buttons on the player controller.  Slow down the clock speed for a counter (in seconds).  Oscillator needs to be connected to a series of counters to slow it down to seconds.

Upcoming Milestones Milestones:Date:Minor/ MajorDescription Test counter in logic31-Oct-12Minor Make sure that the counter we implement is working properly. Osterberg.edf file31-Oct-12Major Check whether or not the logic circuitry fits properly onto a MOSIS chip Design of the logic unit case7-Nov-12Minor Decide how we want to construct the case that will house the MOSIS chip. Design of display9-Nov-12Minor Decide how we want to construct and power the display. Order parts16-Nov-12Major Make sure that all the parts needed to construct this system are all on order. Complete and submit MOSIS design19-Nov-12Major This is the primary plan on how to run the logic needed for this system. We must have our MOSIS design in by this time or we will have to use our backup plan.

MOSIS Design

Issues & Concerns  Properly dividing the oscillator (clock) into seconds using counters.  Can we get it to exact seconds?  How many counters will it take?  Arduino microcontroller uno does not have enough pins.  We will need to use an Arduino microcontroller mega.
