Tools Required Oil Filter Wrench (Vehicle Specific) Box End Wrench (or adjustable wrench) Drain Pan Funnel Oil Oil Filter Rags Car Jack (Optional) Eye Protection Gloves

Change the Oil Step 1: Park vehicle on flat surface Step 2: Run the engine for 5-10 minutes to heat up the oil Step 3: Jack up the vehicle (if necessary) Note: If using a jack I recommend putting blocks behind the back wheels for safety.

Change the Oil Step 4: Put on eye protection and search for oil pan Step 5: Place drain pan below the oil pan Step 6: Using the wrench unscrew the oil plug allowing the oil the drain into the drain pan Oil Pan Plug Caution: The oil will be hot.

Change the Oil Step 7: Find the drain plug after the oil has drained and cooled Step 8: Inspect the drain plug washer for damage Step 9: If the plug is damaged replace it Bent Cracks Tears (if rubber) Step 10: Put the good drain plug back into the hole of the oil pan

Change the Oil Step 12: Move drain pan under oil filter to catch the oil that will fall when filter is removed Step 13: Put the filter wrench around the filter and twist the filter off Note: The gasket should come off with the filter. If it does not, remove it from the mounting area. Gasket

Change the Oil Step 14: Wipe the mounting area with a clean rag Step 15: Take new filter and coat the gasket with clean oil Step 16: Screw the new filter in where you took the old one out Caution: DO NOT over tighten. Tighten the filter until the gasket meets the mounting surface and then tighten an addition ½ turn

Change the Oil Step 17: Locate the area that you put the clean oil into the engine. This spot will be marked with a cap that says “oil” Step 18: Take the cap off, stick the funnel into the opening and pour in the required amount of oil. Note: The owners manual of your vehicle will tell you how much oil is required

Change the Oil Step 19: Place the oil cap back on and wipe up any oil that spilled Step 20: Start the vehicle and make sure there is no oil leaking from the filter or the drain plug Step 21: Shut off the engine and verify that the oil level is correct Step 22: If you jacked up the vehicle lower it back down

Clean up Clean up your mess Used motor oil is considered hazardous waste! Put all of the used motor oil into a leak proof container and take it to a local auto parts store for proper disposal DO NOT dump the oil down the drain or just throw it away!!
