T.E.A.C.H. H ISTORY Started in North Carolina by Sue Russell in the 1980’s. Started in Iowa in participants in the first year participants in the last ten years. In 2012, there were 473 active scholarships, with over 20 options to choose from.

T.E.A.C.H. IS B UILT ON F OUR P RIMARY C OMPONENTS : Compensation T.E.A.C.H. recipients earn a bonus after successful completion of a year of education.

E LIGIBILITY Programs: Any family support program operating in the state of Iowa, that is receiving state or federal funds. Eligible programs include home visiting and group-based parent education programs. Willing to support staff

E LIGIBILITY Individuals Work at least 30 hours/week in an approved family support program Must work at least 20 hours/week in a direct family support or supervisory role Have worked in your current program for at least 90 days Working on (or would like to be) college credits towards an approved degree or credential Have the support of your employer

F AMILY S UPPORT S CHOLARSHIP O VERVIEW T.E.A.C.H.ProgramIndividual Scholarship Tuition: 70% Books: 70% Travel/Internet: $100/semester Tuition: 20% Books: 20% Tuition: 10% Books: 10% Education T.E.A.C.H. covers tuition up to Iowa’s public university rate ($277/credit). Additional costs must be covered by the individual college credits Compensation $800 annual bonus Commitment 1 year commitment to current program

(70%)Program (20%)Individual (10%) Cost Tuition: $1, Books: $ Travel/Internet: $ (3 $100) Bonus: $ Tuition: $ Books : $ Tuition: $ Books: $50.00 Total yearly cost $2, $ *Programs will receive a participation stipend of $500 upon contract completion. $ *Costs will be offset by $300 T/I stipend and $800 bonus.

C ONTRACT R EQUIREMENTS Both employee and employer must sign One year contract (3 semesters) Continue to work at least 30 hours/week Complete 9-24 college credits/year Submit official grades to T.E.A.C.H. within 30 days of semester end Continue to work in your program for one year following the end of the contract

G ETTING S TARTED Can start school in Summer (May), Fall (August), or Spring (January) Contact T.E.A.C.H. with questions Complete an application and await approval notice Complete FAFSA Find a school and apply  This is a 2 year project – act now!
