Presentation/Video clip: Tips for Delivering a Speech (12/11) Just FYI: The big X inside the squares will become videos once you open Powerpoint in presentation mode

When giving a speech… Know your audience. – Ethos/Pathos – Find a common ground with them. Support your own opinion. – Logos – Numbers, graphs, quotes from legit people Know both sides of the issue. – There is some reason why someone disagrees with you. – Know that reason and address it without someone even having to ask. Always use good speaking technique – Don’t use filler words, make eye contact, stand up straight, loud voice

Good!! “If this video doesn't convince you to put down your phone, Nothing probably will”

Nervous? Don’t be! Here are some tips to help you get through a class speech…

Make Eye Contact (that isn’t awkward) Try the “triangle method” Sweep your eyes up the left side of the room, across the back, and down the right side. Then repeat the same thing backwards!

Stand up straight Stand with your feet apart and your shoulders squared, facing the audience. Place yourself in the middle of the speaking area, not on one side. Do not lean up against anything! A relaxed, straight posture will convey confidence and authority to your audience.

Stay away from “filler words” uhm, like, such as, well, yeahhhh and…

Use A Proper Speaking Voice Speak in your normal voice-but loud enough for everyone to hear. Slow down your speech. Take a breath when you need to-but never hold your breath Enunciate-open your mouth, loosen your teeth. This way you won’t mumble through the presentation. Change the tone of your voice to get everyone interested in what you are saying!

Be so good that you leave your class and teacher… Speechless!!
