HOW TO MAKE A SPEAR

GOAL – To make a spear. MATERIALS – -Straight thin wattle sapling. -Tomahawk -Thin steel rod -Tie wire - Fire -Hammer -Glove

METHOD – Look for a straight wattle sapling with no branches. Cut the sapling down at ground level. HOW TO MAKEM SPEAR – First webin go and findem alda straight one stick for spear.

Take the saplings back to school to dry overnight. Webin den go back school to skinem and straightem out outwa spare stick.

Next day choose a sapling that is the right length for you. Approximately 60 – 100cm taller than you.

Skin the bark off the sapling, using a tomahawk, knife or rock or hammer to loosen the bark. Den webin go and skinnem up with da axe and check if ebin straight.

Light a fire. Look to see if your sapling has any bends, heat that section of the sapling in the flames, turning slowly. Using your hands and or feet straighten the bend out of the sapling. Cut the thick end of the sapling with a tomahawk into a wedge shape. Den webin go and makem da fira to straigtem up ourwa spear.

Heat the blunt end of the steel rod in the fire until very hot. Take the rod out of the fire using a glove. Overlap the hot blunt end of the rod and the cut end of the sapling. Hold down the rod with a hammer to burn a groove into the sapling.
