Entering School LAND Trust Plans Regional Training - Fall 2013

Goal #1 State the Goal Choose the academic area(s) Identify the measurement(s) Action Plan Planned Expenditures ADD ANOTHER GOAL

State the Goal Consider using the concept of SMART GOALS

S is for SPECIFIC Straightforward and to the point Council members should be able to repeat the goal statement

M is for Measurable “an assessment of the results obtained” How will you know if the school has reached the goal? What is the assessment – or measurement? What is the baseline? What do you want the students to achieve?

A is for Attainable and Action Plan Can students reach the goal? Is it realistic? Action Plan What steps will be taken to reach the goal? Who will be responsible for each step?

R is for Relevant It is a subset of the School Improvement Plan Goals of the District Approved materials and programs

T is for Timely Set a timeframe Multi-year plans – yearly goals Without a timeframe, it is just a wish.

Specific Measurable Attainable Relevant Timely

SMART Goals S M A R T

State the Goal Enter the goal statement. Council members should be able to repeat the goal statement. Include the academic area, measurement and timeframe There is a specific textbox for: The details of the measurement The Action Plan

Choose the academic area(s) Reading Mathematics Writing Technology Science Fine Arts Social Studies Health Foreign Language

Identify the measurements What assessments will the school use to measure progress? What other measures (formative) could be used? Where is the school/students now? Where will the school/students be at the end of the timeframe?

Action Plan What is the “blueprint” to get from where you are to where you want to be? Who will be responsible to see each step is completed? Needed expenditures should be mentioned in the action plan. If there are expenditures in the Action Plan that will use other funds, please explain that in the Action Plan.

Planned Expenditures Salaries and Employee Benefits Professional and Technical Services Repairs and Maintenance Other Purchased Services (Admission and Printing) Travel General Supplies Textbooks Periodicals, AV Materials Software Equipment (Computer Hardware, Instruments, Furniture) Library Books Select One $0 Short explanation of the selected expenditure

Planned Expenditures Salaries and Employee Benefits Select One $4,000 We will hire an aide to assist with reading instruction. To add an expenditure to the same goal, go back to “Select One.” You can delete an expenditure by clicking on the red circle.

ADD ANOTHER GOAL Decide if the council needs to list 1 goal or 5 goals. Look at the goal statement Look at the academic areas of focus Look at the expenditure areas The goal entry does not need to be lengthy. It needs to be clear and specific.

Amending Approved School Plans The Approved School Plan remains as originally approved. An Edit Section appears at the end of the plan. Date of the vote to amend The vote to amend Textbox to explain the amendment. If inappropriate information is discovered in approved plans, School Children’s Trust can make those edits.
