OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY COLLEGE Things to note in preparing an attractive presentation slides to your audience

Simplicity Slides should not be a verbatim copy of what you are saying. Instead, they should use as headlines to point the direction of your talk. Use pictures and charts to illustrate and explain complex ideas.

Legibility Choosing a suitable font face and size To ensure readability, use a minimum of 24 pt for body text and 36 pt for headings. Limit the number of words on each slide to no more than 30

Watch for the ‘comfort zone’, do not place text or objects too close to the edge of the slide. Good use of transition effects. Don’t overdo the sound effect.

Color Scheme Mind the contrast in tone. Use a dark colored background with light colored text or vice versa. Colored text can attract your audience but overdoing it will cause an adverse effect. Limit the text to 4 colors within a slide.

Graphs and Diagram Keep them as simple as possible Use border lines to bound the area for clarity Use larger font size for labels and legends Keep titles simple and to the point

Pictures, Logo and Clipart Problem of high resolution and low resolution Copyright problem

Test your understanding! What seems to be the problem of the following slides?

When you have had 35mm slides made, the colors will not look the same as they did on your computer monitor (they will usually appear darker). Send us a trial slides for output, to check what your chosen colour scheme will look like. If undecided, a dark blue background with yellow and white text will always be legible. Avoid dark red on a dark blue or black background. When using graphs or diagrams, keep them as simple as possible. Use border lines and symbols, and large text for labels and legends, then you would if graphs or diagrams were for publication. Most presentation graphics packages allow you to import a variety of scans, pictures, logos etc. to use in your slides.

Too many words on a single slide!
