CABLE PREPARATION PLASTIC CABLE SHEATHS IN ORDER TO HAVE A RELIABLE WATER AND AIR TIGHTNESS ONTO THE PLASTIC CABLE SHEATH THREE MAJOR STEPS SHOULD BE FOLLOWED:

CABLE PREPARATION C CLEAN AABRADE T TORCH

CABLE PREPARATION STEP 1 CLEAN AND DEGREASE WITH APPROPRIATE SOLVENT (e.g. ISOPROPYLALCOHOL). DON’T USE PETROL, GASOIL, WHITE SPIRIT OR OTHER SOLVENT WHICH LEAVES AN OILY FILM ONTO THE SUBSTRATE.

CABLE PREPARATION STEP 2 ABRASION OF CLEANED SURFACE TO INCREASE THE ADHESION OF THE HOTMELT ADHESIVE. ABRADE ALWAYS CIRCUMFERENTIAL WITH RECOMMENDED ABRASIVE STRIP.

CABLE PREPARATION STEP 3 FLAME TREATMENT. USE THE YELLOW TIP OF THE FLAME AND MOVE AROUND THE ABRADED AREA OF THE CABLE. FLAME TREATMENT IS NECESSARY TO “ACTIVATE” CABLE SHEATH SURFACE ADHESIVE BONDING IS OBTAINED. DO THE FLAME TREATMENT ALWAYS IMMEDIATELY BEFORE INSTALLING THE HEAT SHRINKABLE SLEEVE.

CABLE PREPARATION LEAD CABLE SHEATHS LEAD CABLE SHEATHS ALWAYS NEED TO PRE PREPARED PROPERLY, TO HAVE AN OPTIMUM ADHESIVE BONDING PERFORMANCE. n CLEAN AND DEGREASE THE LEAD CABLE SHEATH. n SCRAPE GENTLY THE SURFACE WITH A KNIFE. NEVER MAKE DEEP GROOVES! n PREHEAT THE LEAD SURFACE UP TO “HOT TO THE TOUCH” (+ 60°C) n INSTALL IMMEDIATELY AFTER PREHEATING THE HEAT SHRINKABLE SLEEVE.

n USE A SOFT FLAME OF + 30 CM LENGTH, WHEREBY THE YELLOW TIP IS ABOUT 1/3 OF THE FLAME LENGTH (10 CM YELLOW, 20 CM BLUE SECTION OF FLAME). n USE THE YELLOW SECTION OF THE FLAME, TO DO THE FLAME BRUSHING (PLASTIC SHEATH) AND SLEEVE SHRINKING. GENERAL RULES FOR SHRINKING n START SHRINKING PROCESS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SLEEVE TO ONE END. DON’T SHRINK TOO FAST AND MOVE THE FLAME CONTINUOUSLY AROUND THE SLEEVE, SUCH THAT THE AIR CAN ESCAPE. GIVE AND ADDITIONAL POSTHEATING AROUND THE SLEEVE AND...? n REPEAT THE SHRINKING PROCESS FROM THE MIDDLE TO THE OTHER END OF THE SLEEVE.

n THE GREEN THERMOSENSITIVE PAINT SHOULD BE COMPLETELY CONVERTED TO BLACK. ALLOW MAX. 2 MM GREEN BAND AROUND THE LEGS OF THE BRANCH-OFF CLIP. n LOOK FOR A PROPER FLOW OF ADHESIVE ON THE EDGES OF THE INSTALLED SLEEVE. VISUAL CONTROLS OF A GOOD INSTALLATION n TWO WHITE LINES APPEAR IN THE SLOTS OF THE CHANNEL. n THE ADHESIVE OF THE BRANCH-OFF CLIP SHOULD HAVE MIXED WITH THE ADHESIVE OF THE WRAPAROUND SLEEVE.

n ALLOW THE HEAT SHRINKABLE SLEEVE TO COOL DOWN, TO ITS AMBIENT TEMPERATURE. AFTER SHRINKING DON’T MOVE CABLE BEFORE SUFFICIENT COOLING.
