3. What units are used for a graduated cylinder?  Graduated cylinders measure liquids using the metric unit of milliliters (mL).  1 milliliter is a very Tiny amount of liquid. It is just a few drops!

 All graduated cylinders are marked with lines or “graduates.”  The lines help you measure how much liquid is in the cylinder 4. How do we use or read a graduated cylinder?

Step 1: In order to read a graduated cylinder, it is important to determine the VALUE of each line A B C

Sometimes, when liquid is added to the cylinder, it “sticks” to the sides of the glass creating the appearance of a slight “U” shape curve at the top. WHAT IS THIS CURVE CALLED? MENISCUS Draw and label the meniscus

Step 2: To determine the MOST ACCURATE measurement, always read the number at the bottom of the curve. Step 3: To avoid errors, ALWAYS read the numbers from eye level! 4. How do we use or read a graduated cylinder?
