Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment 101
Presentation transcript:

 These rules are in effect NOW until the beginning of the Greek Griller  Covered in the Rules Video  Include:  Sisters cannot wear letters at official orientation events  Sisters cannot recruit for their own chapters  Sisters cannot invite PNMs into chapter houses (except for biological sisters)  Sisters must follow the NPC Unanimous Agreements (no disparaging remarks about any sorority, no bid promising)  Friendly Panhellenic Contact shall be defined as contact that will not make PNMs feel unwelcome or uncomfortable

 In effect from the beginning of the Greek Griller through Formal Recruitment  In the Rules Video  Include:  Sisters may only recruit for their own sorority in the recruitment room  Sisters may not communicate an invite to a closed round to a PNM  Sisters may not initiate contact with a PNM via phone or electronic communication If PNM initiates conversation, sister may respond if she maintains friendly Panhellenic contact

 PNMs are not allowed into sorority facilites except on Day 2  NPC Unanimous Agreements must be followed (includes avoiding discussing alcohol with PNMs and giving gifts or special favors that can be taken from the recruitment room)  Strict silence must be observed from the end of the first Prefrence Party until Bid Night

 In place from the beginning of REX until the beginning of the Greek Griller  Overall purpose of the agreement: respect the REX and Recruitment periods while providing a positive MIT experience for first year students  Rules:  Sisters cannot wear letters to REX events. They can wear apparel representing Greek life.  Sisters cannot actively recruit during REX and Orientation  Sisters cannot take freshmen off campus or into houses

 Non-resident sisters may enter dorms as long as they do not actively recruit, subject to guest policy rules of individual dorms  Alcohol is prohibited from sorority houses  Sisters will refrain from slanderous remarks about any living group (dorm or FSLIG), through the end of formal recruitment

 If you hear of any violations, report to me (or Arti) immediately  Rules:  Dorms will not sponsor any events starting at the Greek Griller and ending on Reg Day Definition of an event: any gathering that is planned at least 24 hours in advance, is facilitated by a dorm, dorm hall, GRT, or house team, and is advertised or publicized  Dorm residents may not wear dorm shirts at Panhel Recruitment events Common sense, but we’re not kicking out PNMs if they wear dorm shirts

 Non-affiliated dormitory men and women may enter FSILGs as long as they do not actively recruit subject to guest policy rules of individual FSILGs This is more for the fraternities, but just so you guys know  On Thursday, Sept. 2 nd and Friday, Sept. 3 rd, the only people who can hold mandatory programs for new students are house teams  Freshmen in dorms may be taken off campus from 8am to 12pm on Tuesday, September 7 th by house teams for optional shopping trips to purchase dorm and school supplies only

 Alcohol Policy in place during REX and Recruitment  Alcoholic parties, registered or unregistered, are not permitted until September 6th A party is defined as a gathering of 5 or more people in the presence of alcohol  Alcohol may not be present in common spaces  Any gathering that does not fit the definition of a party: Must be in a private room Must not include anyone under 21

 Alcohol may be present in students’ private rooms if: The alcohol is concealed The student is over 21  Registered events with alcohol that include those over 21 years of age may begin on Friday, September 10 th

 Rules in effect now until the beginning of the Midway (Friday afternoon)  Rules:  Postering: on public boards, one poster no larger than 8.5”x11”  Cannot invite freshmen to join Facebook groups (unless you knew them before the start of summer)  Cannot hand out flyers until the Midway

 You can give out your individual contact information or remind freshmen that we are the Panhel booth on their map  If asked, you may briefly describe what we do, and you should encourage freshmen to find us at the Midway  We may not advertise other events (i.e. Formal Recruitment) at the TNE  We may not take signups at the TNE

 Go nuts!  Tell freshmen about sororities  Hand out flyers  Give away free stuff  Get signups!

 Don’t break the rules!  Watch out for sisters breaking Panhel’s Recruitment Rules  Watch out for Dorms breaking the REX/Recruitment Agreement  Contact me immediately if there are any issues or questions
