RA Introduce the role as a peer leader within your building to serve as a resource. Does not conduct "rounds" like other institutions - serves as a "connecting" resource and helpful guide more than a policy enforcer. Encourage attendance to their opening floor meeting. Community Standards Standards established by students for students; offer guidelines for community living and respect. RHA & Hall Council RHA is an umbrella organization to individual hall councils providing both a programmatic and advocacy body for on-campus residents. Great opportunity to get involved! [Will insert a line here about Target Take Over - getting additional details] Roommate Relationships Encourage communication with roommates recognizing if you don't get an immediate response it's okay. Reminder people are graduating, traveling, and enjoying the summer. Encourage conversation beyond social media - there is more to learn in a phone conversation then just searching someone via Facebook and/or Instagram. Talk about who is bring what for the room and about what your expectations are for sharing the room i.e. guests, study times, shared food. Talk about Roommate Agreements and how they can be key for keeping roommate conflicts to a minimum. Share that RAs will be connecting in the first six weeks about these because they are so important.

WHAT:
A group of students, joined together by a common purpose or interest, guided by a constitution, under the direction of chosen officers, and registered with the University.
We have more than 475 orgs at GW and they truly run the gamut of interests and areas of focus
87% of GW undergraduate students are involved in at least one student org
Student orgs host the most frequently attended events on campus
WHY
Involvement in a student org comes with a number of perks:
Leadership opportunities - there are more than 1200 student org officer positions
Research shows that students who participate in student orgs report:
Higher satisfaction with their college experience
Positive relationships with faculty, staff, and fellow students
More interaction with peers
Development of important interpersonal, career, and leadership skills
Increased occupational success → employers place weight on involvement when making hiring decisions. Student orgs also offer a valuable networking opp

Ask yourself 3 questions to start thinking about what you might want to be involved with:
1. What is something you did in high school and want to continue?
2. What is something related to your academic/professional goals?
3. What is something you’ve never tried before but always wanted to?
Start scoping out the orgs!
Visit OrgSync -- GW’s Facebook for student orgs. You’ll find their contact information on this site - feel free to reach out to them directly to get more info or find out when meetings are
Sign up with orgs to get more info - hopefully you did this last night at the Org Fair and you’ll get another chance in the fall
Attend Engage GW, our huge student organization fair in the fall during Welcome Week (9/2)
Talk to CSE staff -- we’re well versed on all 475+ orgs and can answer any questions you have or help you find the right org for you!
Social media - almost all of our student orgs have Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram - follow the groups your interested in to learn more about them.
