Maine Capital – Augusta Abbreviation – ME Appalachian Mts. – The White Mts. in Maine are part of this mountain range. Other important rivers:  Kennebec R.  Penobscot R.

Maine has many lighthouses, like Bass Head Light in Acadia National Park. Maine is also known for : LobstersLobsters PotatoesPotatoes Pine treesPine trees

New Hampshire Capital – Concord Abbreviation – NH The White Mts., part of the Appalachian Range, make up most of the state. Major River: The Connecticut R. separates New Hampshire from Vermont. Another major river is the Merrimack R.

The Old Man in the Mountain was a formation carved thousands of years ago by glaciers. It was first recorded by a survey team in 1805, but centuries of wind, snow and rain finally caught up with it, and it collapsed on May 3, Notice the weather station at the summit of Mt. Washington in the White Mts. That’s the building referred to in this sign. 85% of New Hampshire is covered by forests.

Vermont Capital – Montpelier Abbreviation – VT The Green Mts. of Vermont are part of the Appalachians. Major River The Connecticut River separates Vermont from New Hampshire Another major body of water is Lake Champlain, which forms part of the boundary between VT and New York.

Massachusetts Capital – Boston Abbreviation – MA Major Bodies of water:  Atlantic Ocean  Connecticut River Other major bodies of water:  Massachusetts Bay  Cape Cod Bay Cape Cod is a major land feature of Massachusetts.

Connecticut Capital – Hartford Abbreviation – CT Major Bodies of water:  Connecticut R.  Atlantic Ocean Major Landform: Atlantic Coastal Plain

Rhode Island Capital – Providence Abbreviation – RI The Atlantic Ocean forms the southern boundary of Rhode Island. Another major body of water is Narragansett Bay Rhode Island is part of the Atlantic Coastal Plain.

New York Capital – Albany Abbreviation – NY Major Bodies of Water:  Hudson R.  Mohawk R.  St. Lawrence R.  Erie Canal  Lake Erie  Lake Ontario Major Landforms:  The Catskill and the Adirondack Mts. are part of the Appalachian Mts.
