2 Political Features of the New England Region  Maine- Capital is Augusta

3 Political Features of the New England Region  New Hampshire- Capital is Concord

4 Political Features of the New England Region  Vermont- Capital is Montpelier

5 Political Features of the New England Region  Massachusetts- Capital is Boston. Boston is the largest city in New England

6 Political Features of the New England Region  Connecticut- Capital is Hartford

7 Political Features of the New England Region  Rhode Island- capital is Providence. Rhode Island is the smallest state

8 Political Features of the New England Region  New England has 6 states.  They are:  Maine  New Hampshire  Vermont  Massachusetts  Connecticut  Rhode Island

9 Physical Features of the New England Region  Appalachian Mountains  Dominate the New England region  Include the White Mountains (a smaller mountains range in the Appalachians)  Within the White Mountain Range is Mount Washington.  Mount Washington is the highest point in New England.

11 Physical Features of the New England Region  Massachusetts Bay  Protects Boston from the Atlantic Ocean  Located on the coast of Massachusetts  Next to Cape Cod

12 Physical Features of the New England Region  Atlantic Ocean  Borders all states, except Vermont.  Therefore the fishing industry is important in New England.

13 Physical Features of the New England Region  Atlantic Coastal Plain  Sandy lowland area  Follows the coastline of Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts

14 Physical Features of the New England Region  Cape Cod  Sandy peninsula  Connected to Massachusetts  Created by the movement of glaciers thousands of years ago

15 Physical Features of the New England Region  Lake Champlain  Freshwater lake  Found on northwest corner of Vermont

16 Physical Features of the New England Region  Connecticut River  Stretches form the Canadian border through the states of Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut

17 Natural Resources & Economy  Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts are best known for service industries.  New England is well known for Maple Syrup, paper, and fish  New England is also known for tourism  Hartford Connecticut is known as an insurance center  Maine is known for harvesting trees from their huge forests this is a primary industry.  Two chief minerals found in New England are granite and marble.  Boston is known for publishing books. This is a secondary industry.
