3 Member Annual fee: $225 Shares in Church’s healing ministry without the benefit of NACC certification Possess voting privileges Receive Vision (NACC publication) Full Member level as a prerequisite for access to NACC certification process

4 Certified Member Annual fee: $225 Catholic pastoral minister who has successfully completed certification process and received NACC certification. NACC Certification Commission authorized to certify according to standards/procedures approved by the USCCB/CCA. Certified members eligible to hold office. Renewal of Certification is required every five years.

5 Certified Associate Supervisor Annual fee: $300 Catholic pastoral minister who has benefits of certification as Associate Supervisor by the NACC Certification Commission, interested in becoming Certified Supervisor. A Certified Associate Supervisor remains at this level for only two years. This level is a prerequisite to becoming a Certified Supervisor.

6 Certified Supervisor Annual fee: $300 Catholic pastoral minister who has the benefit of certification as a Supervisor by NACC Certification Commission. Clinical pastoral educator responsible for teaching supervisory CPE and preparing others for certification in pastoral care. Same benefits certified chaplains receive and annual copy of Journal of Supervision and Training in Ministry. Renewal of Certification required every seven years.

7 Missionary Annual fee: $55 An individual who is currently engaged in full- time ministry in a developing country. Missionary members pay reduced annual dues. Benefits include those of a Full Member.

8 Emeritus Annual fee: $40 An individual who has maintained full membership in the NACC for five or more consecutive years and who is now retired. The Emeritus member retains voting privileges and subscription to Vision.

9 Affiliate Annual fee: $90 An individual who is interested in, or desirous of, furthering the ideals and work of the NACC. This category of membership is open to professionals of any denomination.

10 Student Annual fee: $35 An individual who is actively engaged in a Clinical Pastoral Education Program. Before applying for certification and receiving a certification application, a Student affiliate must first become a Full Member.

11 INACTIVE MEMBERSHIP

12 Inactive in Chaplaincy A Certified Chaplain who is temporarily not active in chaplaincy. A written request for this status is required, certification is suspended during this time, and the individual must follow her or his original renewal of certification schedule. No mailings are received; however, the member may opt to pay reduced annual dues ($85) to receive all mailings.

13 Inactive in Layoff Any Full Member who has been laid off by an employer. A written request for this status is required. The individual retains voting privileges; if certified, the certification remains valid during this time, and the individual must follow the original renewal of certification schedule. No mailings are received; however, the member may opt to pay reduced annual dues ($85) to receive all mailings.

14 Inactive Certified Supervisor $140 A Certified Supervisor who takes a leave from the ministry of supervision. This allows a Supervisor to maintain supervisory certification. An Inactive Certified Supervisor cannot provide supervision in CPE programs and must follow the established renewal of certification schedule.

15 VISION SUBSCRIPTION

16 Subscription Rate $44 Vision, a publication of the NACC, is issued 10 times per year. A subscription is included with all paid memberships. Libraries and individuals who are not directly involved in chaplaincy subscribe to Vision.

17 Application Process for Certification of Chaplain Applicant must first apply for and become a full member of NACC Contact NACC office for certification materials NACC office responds within 14 days Applicant submits supportive materials and fee by February 1 for Spring interview, by July 1 for Fall interview NACC office reviews supportive materials for completeness

18 Application Process for Certification NACC office will assign a date, place and interview team, honoring the first choice of applicant if possible. A copy of supportive materials is to be sent (by applicant) by certified mail to all interview team members at least 30 days before interview date.

20 Reminders Applicant is required to make 4 copies of supportive materials(mail one to office and 3 to certification interviewers - one set for each person) Instructions for placing supportive materials in binder are included with certification application form.

21 Certification Application Form Applicant provides the following critical information on the form:  Applicant’s membership number which identifies applicant as Full Member.  CPE centers where all units were taken. NACC office verifies that listed sites are accredited.  NACC obtained equivalency and documentation of previous certification interviews if applicable.

22 Current Letter of Endorsement NACC office sends request for endorsement letter to appropriate ecclesial authority: For laity: request is sent to (Arch) Bishop For Religious Sister, Brother, or Priest: request is sent to Major Superior For Diocesan Priest or Deacon: request is sent to Ordinary *Additionally, lay applicants are responsible for requesting letter of recommendation from their pastor or a priest in active ministry where they reside – to be sent directly to NACC office

23 Current Letter of Recommendation (employment) Letter of recommendation from a person to whom the applicant reports in one’s place of employment. (If unemployed, a letter from a person who can assess the quality of ministry provided.)

24 Documentation of CPE Units all final evaluations by CPE supervisors all applicant final self-evaluations If an equivalency has been granted: NACC letter notifying applicant that equivalency has been granted.

25 Narrative Statement Not to exceed 10 pages Documents how applicant meets each of the competencies required for certification Cites competencies from standards by number Makes use of story and example

26 Current Autobiography Updated autobiography which includes CPE and ministry experience as it reflects your current self understanding. Not to exceed 7 pages.

Masters Degree A Master’s degree in theology, divinity, religious studies, pastoral ministry, or spirituality granted or acknowledged by an accredited academic institution. *an official transcript is required as proof of this degree **equivalency for this degree is not granted

28 Verbatim Applicant submits one verbatim illustrating his/her current ministry Verbatim submitted may or may not contain remarks/comments by supervisor
