 Idaho’s nickname is The Gem State.  It’s in the North West region. Nickname and Region in the US.

Capital City, Major Cities and Population  The capital of Idaho is Boise.  Three major cities in Idaho are Nampa, Meridian, and Idaho Falls.  The population of Idaho is 1,567,582 people.

 Idaho’s State Flag:  The State Bird is the Mountain Blue bird.  The State tree is the Western Pine.

Government The current governor is C.L. “Butch” Otter The current senators are Michael Crapo, Jenna Risch.

Borders and Geography The borders of Idaho are Montana, Washington, and Wyoming. Idaho is a Rocky Mountain State with beautiful scenery.

Agriculture and Farming Idaho is good for farming because they have fertile soil, rich mineral deposits, thick forests, and great water supplies.

 Statehood: In 1807 Canadian David Thompson established a trading post near Lake Pend.  In 1860 gold was discovered in Northern Idaho.  In 1874 the first railroad arrived in Idaho.  In 1890, Idaho became the 43 rd state.

Colleges/Universities and Places to Visit.  Two colleges are College of Idaho, located in the city of Caldwell and Idaho State University, located in the city of Pocatello.  One place to visit in Idaho is Ghost Town. Ghost Town one bustled with activity but were abandoned after miners had worked out the nearby veins of gold and silver.  Idaho's capital Boise has numerous event, parks, and many museums. For example, there is the Idaho State House, The Basque Museum, and The Cultural Center.

ADDITIONAL FACTS  Boise state house is heated by hot springs  Lewiston is a port city. Ships go down The Snake and Columbian Rivers.  The first dutiful Mormons was sent by Brigham Young into Idaho.  In the early 1860s angry and sometimes starving Indians attacked wagon trains and stole horses.  The overwhelming majority of Idahoans are white, native-born Americans of European ancestry.  Huge granite rocks pierce the landscape at the Silent City of rocks near Almo.
