Sonnet Wrap Up

Bell Ringer Worksheet! 1) Mark the rhyme scheme of the poem next to the lines. 2) Draw a line that breaks the poem into quatrains and couplets. 3) In the first line, mark the stressed and unstressed syllables for iambic pentameter. 4) The author is expressing his love for a mistress, but the way he does so is unconventional. Describe in 3-5 sentences what the author means when he says “I do not love thee with mine eyes,” and use the rest of the poem to support your statement. In faith, I do not love thee with mine eyes, For they in thee a thousand errors note; But 'tis my heart that loves what they despise, Who in despite of view is pleased to dote; Nor are mine ears with thy tongue's tune delighted, Nor tender feeling, to base touches prone, Nor taste, nor smell, desire to be invited To any sensual feast with thee alone: But my five wits nor my five senses can Dissuade one foolish heart from serving thee, Who leaves unsway'd the likeness of a man, Thy proud hearts slave and vassal wretch to be: Only my plague thus far I count my gain, That she that makes me sin awards me pain.

Sonnet 141 : Paraphrase In faith, I do not love thee with mine eyes, In truth, I do not love you with my eyes, For they note a thousand faults in you; But it is my heart that loves what my eyes dislike, Which, despite what it sees, continues to dote over you; Nor our mine ears delighted by the sound of your voice, Nor will my sense of feeling respond to just anyone's touch, Nor do my senses of taste or smell desire to be invited To any sensual feast with you and you alone. But my five wits nor my five senses can Persuade my foolish heart not to serve you, Who leaves only the likeness of a man To be your proud heart's slave and vassal. Only in this do I consider my love-sickness to my advantage, She that makes me sin determines my punishment.

10 Things I Hate About You I Hate the way... I hate the way you talk to me, And the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, And the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick. It even makes me rhyme. I hate the way you’re always right. I hate it when you life. I hate it when you make me laugh— Even worse when you make me cry. I hate it when you’re not around, and that fact that you didn’t call. But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you—not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all. I Hate the way...

141 vs 10 Things Why is the 10 Things poem not considered a poem? Why do we refer to the 10 Things poem with Sonnet 141? What is similar about the language between the two poems?
