Need help? Select one of these commonly used features of a ‘coming of age’ film from the list below, and find an example of it in 10 things I hate about you. This is a list of conventions for coming-of-age films: the use of cars to indicate status stereotyped students small towns are boring education is boring and teachers are stupid the revenge of the nerd a boyfriend/ girlfriend is essential having sex marks the initiation into adulthood parents are frequently inadequate and spoil their children's lives by their stupid decisions OR they are totally irrelevant to their lives music helps teenagers to define and express themselves males are the dominant sex; females exist only as objects of their desires.

13 First viewing CHARACTER What is the first impression that you get of these main characters? Kat, Cameron, Patrick, Bianca. Write one - two sentences on each, and try to explain WHY you have formed this impression.

14 Homework Write Shakespeare’s sonnet 141 into your books. Here is a copy of the poem: In faith, I do not love thee with mine eyes, For they in thee a thousand errors note; But 'tis my heart that loves what they despise, Who, in despite of view, is pleas'd to dote. Nor are mine ears with thy tongue's tune delighted; Not tender feeling, to base touches prone. Nor taste nor smell desire to be invited To any sensual feast with thee alone: But my five wits nor my five senses can Dissuade one foolish heart from serving thee, Who leaves unsway'd the likeness of a man, Thy proud heart's slave and vassal wretch to be: Only my plague thus far I count my gain, That she that makes me sin awards me pain.
