Greek Culture Quest Lainy Malarney

Ancient Greek art, architecture, and writing The Greeks developed three architecture systems the Doric, Ionic, & Corinthian, each had their own distinctive style Greek art was based heavily on their religious views and on humans, because a huge amount their art was sculptures of the gods and of people. The Ancient Greek alphabet has been continuous for the past 2,750 years.

Major Greek Gods Zeus: god of Heaven, the sky, & thunder. He is the ruler of Mount Olympus. Poseidon: god of the Sea, he was also known as the “Earth-Shaker”, he also created the first horse. Hades: god of the underworld, brother to Zeus & Poseidon. Athena: goddess of wisdom, war, the arts, industry, justice & skill. She is the daughter of Zeus and she also created the bridle so that man could tame the horse

Trojan War The Trojan war was believed to had been started after Paris of troy Stole Helen from her husband Menelaus, King of Sparta. Menelaus and his brother led a ten year expedition to troy to try and take back Helen from Paris, During their expedition they mercilessly slaughtered the Trojans and destroyed their city. The war was supposedly had the help from some of the gods and goddess to help start the war. The Trojan war was one of the most important events in Greek Mythology.

Famous Hero Hercules: He grew up to perform amazingly, beat the odds time & time again, and often performing helpful tasks. Achilles: He was the Greek most supreme warrior during the time of the Trojan war Theseus: the hero of Athens who saved people from having to sacrifice their sons and daughter to the Cretan Minotuar. Thesues slayed the minotuar.

Famous Monster Medusa: Her head was covered in snakes where her hair should have been, and if man took one horrible glance at her they would turn to stone. Minotaur: He was half-man and half-bull, and he was also a fearful man-eating beast. Hydra: a half-woman half-serpent many headed beast whose breath or venom was very deadly. Hydra lived in the swamp but went along the countryside devouring animals and people.
