The Peace Chronicles Part III: The X-Factors For Personal Peace Pastor Joe Pursch Chinese Grace Bible Church Sunday, June 24, 2012

I Peter 5:5-7 (ESV) 5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

I Peter 5:5-7 (ESV) 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

I.The First X-Factor: Humility With ________ Others

I Peter 5:5 (ESV) 5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

John 13:3-5 (ESV) 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God,

John 13:3-5 (ESV) 4 rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist.

John 13:3-5 (ESV) 5 Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

James 4:6 (ESV) 6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Samuel 15:14-16 (ESV) 14 And Samuel said, “What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears and the lowing of the oxen that I hear?”

Samuel 15:14-16 (ESV) 15 Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites, for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen to sacrifice to the Lord your God, and the rest we have devoted to destruction.”

Samuel 15:14-16 (ESV) 16 Then Samuel said to Saul, “Stop! I will tell you what the Lord said to me this night.” And he said to him, “Speak.”

II.The Second X-Factor: Humility Before ______ God

I Peter 5:6 (ESV) 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,

Isaiah 57:15 (ESV) 15 For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a

Isaiah 57:15 (ESV) contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

Corinthians 12:7-10 (ESV) 7 So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited.

Corinthians 12:7-10 (ESV) 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me.

Corinthians 12:7-10 (ESV) 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Corinthians 12:7-10 (ESV) 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Matthew 16:21-23 (ESV) 21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.

Matthew 16:21-23 (ESV) 22 And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.”

Matthew 16:21-23 (ESV) 23 But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

III.The Third X-Factor: Humility Under ___________ Pressures

I Peter 5:5 (ESV) 5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Psalm 55:22 (ESV) 22 Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

Matthew 6:33 (ESV) 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Philippians 4:5-7 (ESV) 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Philippians 4:5-7 (ESV) 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 5:7 (ESV) 7 In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.

Psalm 51:17 (ESV) 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
