 Definition Adjectives are words that describe or modify another person or thing in the sentence.  The Articles — a, an, and the — are adjectives.Articles

 The Adjective forms are known as the positive, the comparative, and the superlative.

 The comparative and Superlative are used to compare, also known as Degree of Comparisons.  We use the comparative for comparing two things That is a good book. This is a better book and  the superlative for comparing three or more things. Which of the three is the best book? He made a bad choice. She made a worse choice. They made the worst choice of all.

 The comparative forms of most adjectives, however, are formed by adding the suffixes -er and -est, or by placing the words more and most in front of the positive form.  There are 5 rules to form these adjectives comparative forms.

 1. One syllable words form the comparative by adding -er and -est: PositiveComparativeSuperlative Brave Small Dark braver Smaller darker bravest smallest darkest

 2. Two-syllable words that end in -y, -le, and -er form the comparative by adding -er and - est : PositiveComparativeSuperlative Pretty Happy Noble Clever prettier happier nobler cleverer prettiest happiest noblest cleverest

WWith some two-syllable words, the writer must consider custom and ease of pronunciation. CCase No. 1 two syllable words that have the accent on the first syllable form the comparative by adding -er and -est. Ex. common, cruel, pleasant, quiet. BUT tasteless, more tasteless, most tasteless. CCase No. 2 Some two-syllable words that have the accent on the second syllable form the comparative by adding -er and -est: Example: polite, profound, BUT: bizarre, more bizarre, most bizarre.

 3. Words of more than two syllables form the comparative with more and most: PositiveComparativeSuperlative Beautiful Resonant Intelligent Adorable more beautiful more resonant more intelligent more adorable most beautiful most resonant most intelligent most adorable

 4. Past participles used as adjectives form the comparative with more and most: PositiveComparativeSuperlative Crooked Broken Damaged Defeated more crooked more broken more damaged more defeated most crooked most broken most damaged most defeated

 5. Predicate adjectives (adjectives used to describe the subject of a sentence) form the comparative with more and most : PositiveComparativeSuperlative Afraid Mute Certain Silent more afraid more mute more certain more silent most afraid most mute most certain most silent
