References:  Introduction to Work Study, ILO Publication,  Motion and Time Study for Lean Manufacturing, Prentice Hall, Third Edition, 2002  Work Systems and the Methods, Measurement, and Management of Work, Prentice Hall, 2007 Course Description:  History of method design and work measurement, methods design, process analysis, operation analysis. Introduction to human engineering, standardization, work measurement, pre-determined motion time system, standard data, work sampling.

Course Objectives:  Students develop an understanding of the appropriate use of work measurement data; learn the correct procedures to establish a valid performance standard data, and the application of human factors to method studies in order to improve productivity within a given organization with the integration of sound work methods and measurement techniques within the total management structure.  Students learn how to observe work in a systematic and disciplined way with the general objective of improving work methods and working conditions.  Students learn specific work measurement methodologies: Time Study, Work Sampling, Pre- determined Time Systems

Course Topics: Work Systems; Manual Work and Worker-Machine Systems; Methods Engineering and Operations Analysis; Methods, Standards, and Work Design; Problem Solving Tools; Motion and Time Study; The Economics and Applications of Time Standards; Work Measurement and Productivity; Work Study; The Human Factor in the application of work study; Method Study and selection of the jobs; Movement of workers in workplace; Work Sampling; Time study; Allowances; Performance Rating; Pre-Determined time standards; Standard Data.

Attendance:  Attendance is compulsory. Justified absences should be discussed with the instructor preferably before the fact. Each unexcused absence will cause to loose one (1) point out of 100. Grading:  Final grade (KFUPM standard grading scheme will be used) will be weighted as follows;
