Purpose Practices positioning in the other team's (offensive) zone Reinforces acquiring and controlling the puck in the offensive zone Practice passing/shooting from good positions in the offensive zone

The Basics Done with all 5 players Forwards and wing are offensive players, trying to score Defense and Goalie are the opposition, practicing positions Everyone lines up on the blue line The puck is dumped in One offensive player gets the puck –The players must communicate who is going for the puck! –"I've got it!" The other offensive players position themselves in the triangle –One high slot –One on the opposite side from the net Defenseman on puck side skates near puck –Other defenseman goes to front of net Work passing and shooting on goal from a triangle configuration All players skate out of the zone together

Setting up All the players are lined up in the neutral zone, facing the goalie Wings line up in the neutral zone on the boards Centers line up in the center Defensemen line up between the centers and wings, each on her respective side

The Steps 1.The puck is dumped in 2.Players move into position The Wing (or Center) on the side of the puck goes and gets it The Center (or Wing) goes high in front of the net (high slot) The other Wing goes to the corner of the net (low) The Defenseman on the side of the puck goes to it The other Defenseman moves to the front of the net The player with the puck skates in to shoot, or passes to a player in the triangle Offensive players keep an eye on where the puck is, but be ready to skate forward 3.Defenseman play their positions but do not try to take the puck 4.After a few seconds of passes/shots all players skate out of the zone and get back in line (I can blow the whistle for this)

"When do I pass or shoot?" In general it is best to take a shot whenever you have a chance –Shots can go in –Shots can be deflected in –Shots can be tipped in If there are defenders on top of you, and you might lose the puck, and you see someone is open, it may be time to pass Try to get a pass in the triangle before shooting this time for practice

Variations The Center can go in to get the puck –The Wing on that side takes her place in the high slot In a real game, the other team’s defense are skating to the puck as well!
