2 Purpose To practice positioning for breaking out of your own zone Reinforces acquiring and controlling the puck in your defensive zone and transitioning to offensive play By eliminating the opposing players, you get to work on positioning and passing

3 The Basics Done with all 5 players Uses no players from the other team Everyone lines up on the blue line The puck is dumped in A defensive player gets the puck The offensive players position themselves –Wings on boards, Center makes a U-turn Defenseman passes puck to wing player on same side, or the center Offensive players skate out of the zone together Defensive players skate out of the zone behind them

4 Setting up All the players are lined up in the neutral zone, facing your goalie Wings line up in the neutral zone on the boards Centers line up in the center Defensemen line up between the centers and wings, each on her respective side

10 Variations The Defensemen with the puck can position herself behind the net to start the breakout –The Center then skates behind the net to get the puck The Defenseman can pass to the center as she wheels around In a real game, the other team’s wings are probably skating to the puck too!
