Esophagus Where food is stored and broken down by acids into a liquid form. Stomach Where nutrients are absorbed into the blood stream by capillaries in the villi which make up the inner lining of the small intestine. Small Intestines Where any remaining water from the food is absorbed into the body. Large Intestines Where the remaining waste from the food is stored before it is removed from the body. Colon A - - Produces bile which is stored in the gall bladder and is used to help break down fats. Liver B - - Stores bile which is made by the liver and which helps to break down fats.
