Be Pro – Active before you have to “re-act” to the problem!

 Recognize the “Problem’ early.  Body presence.  Body language.  Voice, Hand, and Facial expressions.  Whistle tone.  Consistency.

Run shoulder to shoulder with the player and relay to him in a calm voice that you are aware of his actions and he needs to re-think his behaviuor.

Temporarily readjusting your diagonal to stand near a trouble maker is another easy way of letting the player(s) know that you are aware of their unacceptable behaviuor. This works best during goal kicks and throw ins.

After you awarded a free kick move swiftly to your next position. After you awarded a free kick move swiftly to your next position. Staying too long near the area will invite dissenting comments. 18 A player maybe frustrated, let him vent his anger at you for a short moment! [Do NOT allow it to become personal] Better to vent his displeasure with you rather than at his opponents!

It is important that you remain calm polite, and in Control at all times. (Even if you feel angry, frustrated, or frightened on the inside!) Anger will inflame the situation!

It is not always best, when dealing with dissenting players, to have an easygoing approach. A quick smile, then your ‘Personal Management’ should tell the story!
