Oaty Crunch Cookies Winchmore School Food Technology In this project you are going to learn how to make some cookies Ask an adult to help you!

Oaty Crunch Cookies Ingredients 80gMargarine 50gBrown Sugar 50gPorridge Oats 75gWholemeal flour Plus a little flavouring These ingredients have been chosen for this recipe because they are healthier than others which are more commonly used in baking. Do you know why? This is what we will need to make them.

Equipment we need: These are the tools we need to make our cookies. Electronic scales Mixing bowl Wooden spoon Teaspoon Dessert spoon Baking tray

Skills you will learn Weighing Measuring Mixing Stirring Creaming Moulding Baking These are processes which you are going to remember

Health and Safety Rules Wash hands Wear an apron Tie long hair back Use clean equipment Ask an adult to help you use the oven Wear oven gloves Wash and dry all your equipment after use These keep us safe and stop us getting ill.

Flavourings Choose one of these flavourings: 1 teaspoon of mixed spice 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon of ground ginger 2 teaspoons of cocoa A few drops of lemon essence A few drops of orange essence A few drops of vanilla essence These are what we can add to make them taste different.

The cookies are good for us because: The oats contain fibre and give us energy. The brown sugar is more natural than white sugar. The wholemeal flour contains more fibre than white flour. There is not too much sugar or fat in them. And there are no additives and artificial colours in them.

Oaty Crunch Cookies Method 1. Wash hands, Put on an apron and tie long hair back. 2. Ask an adult to help you to preheat the oven at 190°C or Gas Mark Measure 80g of margarine and 50g of brown sugar. Mix these together in a bowl using a wooden spoon until they become creamy and lighter in colour. 4. Measure 50g of oats, 75g of wholemeal flour and your flavouring, add this to the bowl and mix them in. 5. Divide the mixture into 8 equal sized portions mould each one into a ball, place on the baking tray with parchment paper, leaving plenty of space around each one. Flatten them slightly with the palm of your hand. 6. Bake the cookies for 15 minutes or until they are beginning to turn golden. Ask an adult to help you take them out of the oven then leave the cookies on the baking trays until they are cool and firm. This is how we will make them.
