A2 Music Technology An Introduction

Aims To find out what is required for A2 Tech. To look at coursework requirements. To set a four week project. To discuss composition briefs.

What do you have to do? 5 pieces of coursework. Two written exams. A study of two “classic” albums. Advanced MIDI editing. In-depth Music Technology in context.

Coursework Two compositions. One “free brief”. One “set brief”. Production. One Multi-track Recording. One Backing track. Backing track and vocal.

Composition Brief In–depth look at what you wan to achieve. Use composing descriptors such as “Light and Shade”. Around one side of A4 (or more). In by Friday 7 th July.

Three Week Project Maximize use of studio equipment. Obtain a view to how a professional recording can be achieved. Fill out relevant paperwork. Work with a “client”. Understand the term “track economy”. Have fun recording in a studio environment!

Three Week Project Record an acoustic performance. Groups of two or three. Must sound “professional”. Think about microphone placement. Compression and Eq. Communication. Members of the group cannot perform on own recording.
