1 Year 9 & 10 Music

2 Music is a VERY important subject. (The most important subject according to Miss Elliot.) You learn to create, interpret, discuss, analyse, pontificate, deduce…. and clap in time.

3 Choosing Music for Year 9 & 10? Anyone interested in music and willing to give the subject a try can do well in this course. It just takes practice! It is NOT a course for easy marks. It rewards those who work hard and contribute to class discussions. The more students contribute, the more rewarding the course will be.

4 What will Year 9 get to do? Performing Listening Composing Learning about different styles of music.

5 What will Year 10 get to do? Continue to develop skills in… Performing Listening Composing By studying different musical styles! (When you choose Music as an elective, you are able to use more of the equipment, rehearse at lunch when necessary and due to the smaller class size, you will get more chances to play music as a class.)

7 What is Composition? Creating music of your own. This can include: Writing music on computer using Finale Writing music on music paper Organizing sounds (arrange/remix) Recording sounds Or just for fun, improvising on the spot!

8 Using Finale. Finale is a music software program for writing music. By composing with it you will develop your ICT skills. You can type the music in or play music in through the keyboard and it will be notated on the screen.

9 What do you do for performance? Choose one instrument that you will practice regularly at home & use often in class…this could be your voice! Play keyboard and guitar pieces as a class. Play pieces as a class ensemble. Play percussion instruments. Learn to use microphones & a PA system. Showcase songs you have been working on in your own time.

10 Frequently Asked Questions…  Do you have to be naturally gifted at music to do well? No…you just have to be prepared to work at it.  Do you have to know how to play an instrument before joining the class? No…you can learn and practice on the way! ☻
