Spiritual Warfare Part 1 of 4

The existence of the devil “It seems to me to explain a good many facts. It agrees with the plain sense of Scripture, the tradition of Christendom, and the beliefs of most men at most times. And it conflicts with nothing any of the sciences has shown to be true.” C S Lewis

Objectives of this series 1. Recognise the enemy and his tactics 2. See our difficulties in the context of the war 3. Know our defences and how to access them 4. Be encouraged by the bigger picture

Yes or No? “I think the devil exists but I prefer not to think about spiritual warfare. If I keep my head down Satan won’t bother me.”

Yes or No? “Persecution and spiritual attack are big problems in places like Iraq and Pakistan but in the UK we are free to practice Christianity.”

Paul “Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven - if there was anything to forgive - I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.” 2 Corinthians 2: 10-11

France 1944

Yes or No? “The devil is the cause of all our difficulties in the Christian life.”

The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?

Hidden help – 2 Kings 6 When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked. “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

“Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out”

God so loved the world that he gave his only son

We who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us
