I. THE YEAR OF THE SHEEP The Year starts from Feb. 19, 2015 and lasts to Feb. 7, It is the 8 th of 12 animals according to Chinese zodiac. Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

A. WHAT THE WORLD SAYS… 1. Of the Period of the Sheep. 1.It is a Picture of… a. Gentleness: The sheep is gentle and calm. b. Generative creativeness: Since ancient times, people have learned to use its fleece to make writing brushes and skin to keep warm. c. Goodness: As it is white, people describe it as close to the meaning of good things.

2. Of the Person of the Sheep. a.His or Her Strengths. People are tender, polite, filial, clever, and kind-hearted. They have special sensitivity to art and beauty, faith in a certain religion and a special fondness for quiet living. They are wise, gentle and compassionate and can cope with business cautiously and circumspectly. In their daily life, they try to be economical. Women born in this year are willing to take good care of others, but they should avoid pessimism and hesitation. They are kind in heart and commonly have symmetrical figures and features.

b. His or Her Weaknesses Sheep year people are often worriers who are shy, pessimistic, moody, indecisive, over-sensitive, weak- willed and puzzled about life. They are easily inclined to be deeply religious. They are timid in nature and like to be looked after by others. They like flattery, compliment and suggestions from friends. B. WHAT GOD’S WORD OF WARNING SAYS. Deut. 18:9-14 A."When you come into the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone  who makes his Son or his daughter pass through the fire…  who practices witchcraft, or a Soothsayer…  who interprets omens, or a Sorcerer…  who conjures Spells, or a medium, or a Spiritist…  who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD… For these nations…listened to Soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not appointed Such for you

C. WHAT THE WORD SAYS. 1. The Occurrences of the word. a.The Original Hebrew words from which “sheep” is translated: i.Ts’on is a collective term. A flock of sheep. Gen. 4:2; 29:10; etc. Tsoneh is either a variant spelling of or the feminine of Ts’on. ii. Seh is One of a flock, a single sheep (lamb). Gen. 22:7, 8; iii. Kebes is a young ram just old enough to butt. Exo. 12:5; A young sheep, a lamb. Gen. 30:32, 35; Lev. 1:10, etc.; iv. Kibsah and kisbah are young lambs.

The Original Heb words from which “sheep” is translated: b.The Original Greek word in the New Testament: Probaton - any four-footed tame animal accustomed to graze, but always a sheep in the NT.Matt. 7:15; 10:16; 12:11-12 c. The Symbolism of Sheep: i. Scattered Shepherdess people. I Kgs. 22:17 ii. Innocent, hapless and helpless people facing Slaughter and death. Psa. 44:11, 22; 49:14 iii. Straying Sinners are likened to Sheep – See #2. 2. The Occasions – See The Year of the Sheep.

I. T HE Y EAR OF T HE S HEEP -T HE S TRAYED S INNER A.THE SHEEP. 1.In the Past, Sheep were God’s People under His Protection. Psa. 78:52; 95:7; 100:3 cp. Psa In the Present, the Lord is Searching for Straying Sheep. They are Sinners.Lk. 15:1-7 The Lord Sends His Servants out to Shepherd His Sheep. Jn. 21:15-17; Acts 20: In Prophecy: The People of the World will be Separated into Sheep and Goats to qualify them for entry into the Kingdom. Mt. 25:31-33ff

B. THE LAMB – Jesus is the Passover Lamb. 1. Jesus Figured in the Passover Lamb. a. In the Institution of the Passover.Exo. 12:3-14 b. In the Intimation of Prophecy.Isa. 53:7 2. Jesus Fulfilled the Figure of the Lamb. I Cor. 5:7 cf. Jn. 1:29

II. THE YEAR OF THE GOAT – THE SUBSTITUTE’S SACRIFICE A.What the World Says. [As with The Year of The Sheep.] B. What the Word Says. 1.The Occurrences a.The Hebrew Words in the Old Testament translated Goat ’aqqô, “slender”; ya‘el, “climbing”; ‘ez, “strong”; ‘attûd, “prepared,” and so “leader”; sa‘îr, “shaggy” b. The Greek Words: eriphion, tragos. An animal often associated with sheep and mentioned with them in many places in Scripture.

B. What the Word Says: 1. The Occurrences. 2. The Occasions – a.Used in Symbolism: i.Of the king of the west in prophecy. Dan. 8:5 ct. Ram, 8:3 ii.Of the unrighteous in the Judgment of nations. Mt. 25:32ff b. A clean male animal used for Sacrifice. Deut. 14:4; Lev. 4:23 c. The Scapegoat Selected at random once a year on Atonement Day to bear Symbolically the Sins of the nation of Israel.

3. The Outstanding Goat/Goats in the Ritual on Atonement Day. a. Two Offenders Indicted – Lev. 16:1 cf. 10:1, 2 cf. 9:24 b. Two Obstacles Introduced – Lev. 16:1-3 cf. THE YEAR OF THE RAM - THE SAINT’S SURRENDER A.What the World Says (As for the Sheep and Goat) B.What the Word Says. 1.Its Occurrences: The English rendering of two Heb. words. a.The first term, Heb. rAm = high, is the name of three persons: Ruth 4:19; I Chr. 2:25, 27; Job 32:2 b.The second term, Heb. ’ayil (= strength), refers to the ram/rams or male sheep – over 250 times. 97 times in 86 verses in KJV); 1 st in Gen. 15:9; Last in Dan. 8:20 cf.
