SALVATION BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH

Eph. 2:8, For by grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not of works, that no man should glory. Jno. 1:29, On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world! 4 Eph. 2:8, For by grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not of works, that no man should glory. Good-will, loving-kindness, favor….but the N.T. writers use [this word, sw] pre- eminently of that kindness by which God bestows favors even upon the ill-deserving, and grants to sinners the pardon of their offences (Thayer, Ages Software) Eph. 2:1-5

Good-will, loving-kindness, favor….that kindness by which God bestows favors even upon the ill-deserving Eph. 2:1-5 Eph 2:1-3, ye were dead through your trespasses & sins ye once walked - - according to the course of this world - according to the prince of the powers of the air (ye) lived in the lust of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind (ye) were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest 4 but God, being rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace have ye been saved)

HOW FAITH IS USED IN THE BIBLE Faith sometimes is used to speak of belief that is not followed by any further progress in ones relationship with God: John 12:42, Nevertheless even of the rulers many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, lest they should be put out of the synagogue. Jas 2:14, What doth it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath faith, but have not works? can that faith save him?

HOW FAITH IS USED IN THE BIBLE Faith is sometimes used to speak of belief that is followed by actions: Rom. 10:10, For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Jas. 2:18, Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Acts 15:9, And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. 1Pet. 1:22, Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently. FAITH = ALL THEY DID TO BE PURIFIED. Examples of faith being used to describe belief followed by actions: Ac 11:14, Who shall speak unto thee words, whereby thou shalt be saved Ac 10:43, That through his name every one that believeth on him shall receive remission of sins. Ac 11:18, Then to the Gentiles also hath God granted repentance unto life. Ac 10:48, And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (cf. 2:38).

Heb. 11:7, By faith Noah, being warned of God concerning things not seen as yet, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; through which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

BY GRACE HAVE YE BEEN SAVED THROUGH FAITH Heard, Eph. 1:13 Believed, Eph. 1:13; Acts 19:18 Repented, Acts 19:19; 20:21 Confessed, Rom. 10:9-10 Baptized, Acts 19:5; Eph. 4:5; Mk. 16:15-16

FAITH AND WORKS

Harmonizing Romans 4 and James 2: Jas. 2:21, Was not Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect; 23 and the scripture was fulfilled which saith, And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness; and he was called the friend of God. 24 Ye see that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith. works done in obedience to God's commands works which "perfect" faith, v. 22 works of done in humility, Gen. 22:2

1 What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, hath found according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not toward God. 3 For what saith the scripture? And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness. 4 Now to him that worketh, the reward is not reckoned as of grace, but as of debt. 5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is reckoned for righteousness. Romans 4:1-5: Boasting works, cf. 3:27; 4:2

3:27; 4:2 Meritorious works, cp. 9:30-32; Lk. 18:9-12

THE BOOK OF ROMANS MAKES A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WORKS OF MERIT AND WORKS THAT MEET CONDITIONS GOD HAS REVEALED: Rom. 3:20, Because by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified in his sight; for through the law cometh the knowledge of sin. Rom. 6:17, But thanks be to God, that, whereas ye were servants of sin, ye became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching whereunto ye were delivered; 18 and being made free from sin, ye became servants of righteousness.
