The Play of the Diary of Anne Frank Act 2, Scene 2

Act 2, Scene 2: Although everyone is worried about Mr Kraler - who has been admitted to hospital - there is growing excitement at the possibility of an Allied invasion of the Netherlands.

Act 2, Scene 2: Although Anne isn’t in love with Peter, she is very happy to have him around. Mrs Frank is worried that Anne will expose herself to criticism and unpleasantness from Mrs van Daan because of her relationship with Peter.

Act 1, Scene 3: The themes that are explored through the characters and incidents in this scene are: Conflict Triumph over Adversity

Questions & Answers: Why is Margot jealous of Anne? Margot is jealous that Anne has something to look forward to each day and feel excited about. What does Anne mean when she says that she will have to “run the gauntlet”? To run the gauntlet means to navigate yourself through difficult and treacherous obstacles. In Anne’s case, it is Mrs van Daan that she must get around safely. Why is she criticized for visiting Peter’s room?  Mrs van Daan criticizes Anne for dressing up and suggests that it is improper for a girl to call on a boy. She feels that it is inappropriate for young people to be alone together and suggests that they are doing more than “talking”.
