WHO IS EVLIYA ÇELEBI? He was a wellknown Turkish traveller. He travelled around the territory of the Ottoman Empire over a period of forty years and took notes.he gathered his notes from all of his travels in his book, called the Seyahatname (Book of Travels). Seyahatname

HIS LIFE He was born in İstanbul in 25 March 1611.He had good education in the fields of Arabic, Persian, Calligraphy, Music and Physical Education.After his education,he worked in the Ottaman Palace.He gained appreciation of the Sultan because of his works.At the last trip to Egypt where he died in 1682.

B EGINNING OF TRAVELS He had a great desire to travel from an early age. He wanted to see new places and to meet new people.According to his speech,he saw a dream and began his famous travels.

T HE B OOK OF T RAVEL F ROM E VLIYA Ç ELEBI This book was written by Evliya Çelebi in the seventeenth century.It was a wellknown travelling book.This book consisted of ten chapters.It was written simply,clearly and fantastically.This book included a lot of idioms which were understood by people.

WHO İS A LI KUŞÇU ? He was an astronomer,mathematician and linguist.

H ıS LIFE He was born in Semerkand in the fifteenth century.Because of his father’s job,who was a birdman of the sultan Uluğ Bey,he was famous with the nickname of birdman(kuşçu) Ali kuşçu was interested in mathematics and astronomy from young age.He took lessons from the famous scholar of mathematics and astronomy.And then he went to Kirman to improve himself and wrote some of his works at this place.After he completed his education,he became the manager of observatory and the assistant of Uluğ Bey.He died in İstanbul in 16 December 1474.

W HO IS U LUĞ BEY ? He was the fourth Sultan of Timur Empire.He was the Turkish mathematician and astronomer.

H ıS LIFE He was born in Sultaniye in From the age of sixteen,He governed the goverment as well as he continued his education. Uluğ Bey was a scholar and mature Sultan.In his free time,he read books and talked about science with scholars.His knowledge of mathematic and astronomy was quite advanced.

W HO IS P IRI REIS ? He was the sailor and map maker of the Ottoman Empire. He was famous with World maps,showing America,and Kitab-ı Bahariye,which is about sea.

H ıS LIFE He was born in Gelibolu in 1465.His uncle,Kemal, was very important for him because he sailed with his uncle for the first time. When his uncle captain Kemal died in 1511,he settled Gelibolu for a while.He studied on his book,Kitab-ı Bahariye.In 1513 he drew the first map of the world.This map was very important because it was very close the reality.In 1554 he got the death penalty.

MAP Piri Reis Map is the oldest one which shows east sides of the South america, american continent and west sides of europe and africa. This map was prepared gathering twenty sources including a map of Christopher Columbus.And it was also valuable historical document including geographical knowledge of 16th century European and Muslim sailors.In 1528 Piri reis drew second map which showing America.

H AZARFEN AHMET ÇELEBI

W HO ıS H AZARFEN AHMET ÇELEBI ? He was the Turkish Muslim scholar who lived in the Ottoman Empire in 17th century. He was the first people who managed to fly by using self- developed wings.

F LYING T ESTS At the first flying test,he observed the flying of birds and did experiments.It was said that he flew from Galata Tower to Üsküdar with a tool similar to wings of birds.

W HO IS BIRUNI ? He was the islamic scholar who studied in the fields of astronomy, mathematics, natural sciences, geography and history

H ıS LIFE Biruni was born in Kas in 978 and died in Gazne in He focused on the inclinations of the sun and the planets He found Earth axis inclination of 23 º 27 and it was very close the real number (23º 26,7’).And he was the first person who found the value of world’s diameter which was very close the real number,too
