Review of Study Strategies So you want to be an “A” student. Dr. David Ross PDS 120

NOTETAKING  Always preview text before class.  Review notes before class.  Use an active note taking strategy, like Cornell.  Re-copy notes daily.

TEXTBOOK READING  Use an active reading strategy, like SQ3R. Especially preview and write notes.  Create Chapter Summaries.

TEST PREPARATION  Spread study time out over time.  Create study materials: flash cards, subject summaries, etc.  Utilize your learning style: audio tapes, write/re-write, walk around, draw pictures.

TEST TAKING  Underline key words.  Read carefully, re-write if not clear.  Skip around, answer ones you know first.  Outline essay questions.

PAPER/PROJECT  Break down stages of paper into small steps.  Start preliminary research before doing story tree.  Keep track of citations and use source cards.  Do extra editing.

GENERAL  Use an assignment notebook/planner.  Use daily “to do” list.  Study in quiet, non-distracting location.
