1 KEEP CALM AND STUDY ON How are you doing?

2 HOW STRONG ARE YOUR STUDY SKILLS?  I set a positive mood for my studies, schedule a productive time to study, and find a less distracting space.  I vary my studying to include not just reading, but group discussions and hands on activities.  I organize and centralize notes and assignments, either in a notebook or on my computer. 5 = Always2 = When I think of it 4 = Most of the time 1 = Never 3 = Sometimes

3 5 = Always2 = When I think of it 4 = Most of the time 1 = Never 3 = Sometimes  I set aside time each week to review my notes and assignments.  Before each class or study session I review my notes.  I set aside time to organize my notes and assignments from each class.  After reading from a textbook, I write what I learned in my own words in my notebook.

4  I make note of things I don’t understand and make a point to ask for help.  I take key concepts and write them on notecards to use for future studying.  I reward myself for assignments well done. 10 7. ESTABLISH A ROUTINE TIME TO STUDY FOR EACH CLASS Studying for each subject should be at the same time, same place, if possible. Study includes more than just doing your homework. You will need to go over your notes in class, labeling, editing, and making sure you understand them Read ahead whenever possible. Prepare for each class as if there will be a pop quiz.

11 6. KEEP UP WITH CLASS READING Tailor your reading to class instruction Find a way to engage in the material Preview Highlight Take notes Use a dash-dot summary method At a minimum, skim material before class

14 3. STUDY DURING THE DAY What takes an hour to do during the day may take an hour and a half at night. You may be more tempted to turn on the TV or your computer…..Pinterest can be very distracting!

15 2. SCHEDULE BREAKS Take a ten minute break after every hour of study. If possible, avoid long blocks of time for studying. Spread out several short study sessions during the day.

22 REVIEW Once a week, check your calendar for the next few weeks. Review your master to do list. Don’t trust yourself to remember what’s there. This will cause the whole thing to fall apart.

28 ACT Each morning, check your plan for the day. Assign times to complete tasks on the plan. If the day isn’t hectic, block out some time for other less pressing things on your Master to-do list. Ideally, your day should look like a normal work day. If you can, avoid working nights and don’t schedule every hour of your day.
